I've been trying to locate some green beans or String beans (tau fak yaw) in the UK but without much luck.

I've tried all the supermarkets, but all they sell is Runner Beans or Dwarf Beans (dwarf grean beans), the dwarf beans just taste like dirt...!

So finally I walked into my first choice Thai shop (the one that sells a case of Chang for £13.50) and they didn't have any...! :D

So second stop was the Oriental Store (which funnily enough specialises in Indian, Bangladeshi and Bengali food) and the ones they had should have been thrown out a couple of weeks ago... :D

So... over to Gloucester I go and stop in at the Pinoy store.... now these beans looked a little better, so I bought them... but they are very tired and certainly not at their best, fresh debatable.... :o But I bought them anyway, just to give them a go.

The ones I bought are not really the same as in Thailand, the main difference is the width of them... they are about half the width.., just not as crunchy, in fact alittle soft.

I never thought it would be so much trouble getting these beans in the UK, I'm sure I've seen them sold in the big supermarkets before, just can't find them now. maybe they are out of season or something, but these days anything can be bought out of season... I just don't get it.

You can get all the stuff you want delivered to your door by 'Sky Market' of Cardiff

They do about 120 types of thai veg, books, magazines, curry pastes from Thailand and at very reasonable prices. They deliver once a week, normally on a wednesday and are very reliable. You can even get the BKK post once a week. You can drop my name to them if you like. Martin from 'Thai Superstores' in Ramsgate.(think I paid up before I left) Sorry I'm a bit delayed with this info,I forgot all about them. I do not have a telephone number,or address, but it should be easy to find.

Have you tried vegetable wholesalers?  They'll sell them in bulk -but if you know a couple of others that want them too then you're sorted.  You want to ask for snake beans.

A more common name for them is 'Yard long beans'
