May 26, 200520 yr Currently looking at the options for a (static) public IP available in Thailand. Anyone know about the lease line providers etc? The quotes I have sofar for a 256k connection are +20k which sounds a little steep. Thanks in advance for your thoughts....
May 26, 200520 yr Sounds pretty typical for corporate leased lines here. Only a few years ago it was around 1k baht/1kbit speed/month, so this is actually 10 times cheaper. The leased line itself is cheap, in the order of a few thousand baht/month, the expensive part is the internet fee from the ISP. Higher tier (CS, Inet, etc) ISPs tend to cost more, but are probably more reliable. You could go for a non-corporate package (not 1:1 contention ratio) like an SME package and pay an extra fee for the fixed IP. Would be about half as much. Of course the level of service will not be the same.
May 27, 200520 yr INET were offering them to adsl users a while back. 2K a month with a cap on downlaod bandwidth, but unlimited upload, which could make it practical for a web site.
May 27, 200520 yr You could of course use one of the dynamic DNS systems to reduce the requirement for a fixed IP address. Such as:- http://www.zoneedit.com/doc/dynamic.html? Just a thought. DC "I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"
