I have googled all over and didn't find any redily available ways to protect seed from fungas other than 'thyram' and wondering if anyone out there has any tips on protecting your saved seed from fungas.....preferably dry, as seed is dry already and i don't want to wet it again.

I thought of dry cholorine [for swimming pools]......would that work??

sunflower seeds do have noticable mold, as they got wet before i could dry them.

Any suggestions???

Hello jaideeguy, as per our talk today, this is the shi#, I went looking

when I read the sticker on the seed packet.(see pix) SESE sells a lot

of USDA certified OG seed, they say they don't use high power stuff,

but this is OK with them, and I try to trust my seedman.

Here's a link to the place I found the spinosad with MSDS info.

I'm not against using THIRAM as we both have grown HK corn that

seed was treated with it, same as our Texas Gourd Seed Corn is now

treated with the new stuff which shouldn't kill us as fast as the other.

Here's a pix of the TGS corn, can't wait to make masa with it.

Hi Rice......checked out that link and it seems that the stuff is an insecticide only. I use diatomateous earth [DE] for insect control on saved seed, but would like to protect against fungus. As you....I don't have anything against using chems [thyram] on saved seed as i can't see any exposure other than in handling seed and surgical gloves can avoid exposure.

Hi jaideeguy,

I suppose you are trying to keep the seeds collected for later sowing. In that case you can use Apron 35 ( active ingredient metalaxyl ). It is a powder type of chemical effective for damping off in seedling.

You can buy it at any one of the agrichemical shops in Chiang Mai. Please refer to my list to you in our correspondence by email sometime ago. The shop would be able to let you know how to use the chemical.

If you would like to know how to prevent fungus from attacking your collected seeds. You would have to consult the Maejo University again. It has something to do with the temperature and the humidity where you keep your seeds and the type of seeds.

That's a seed tech question.
