How To Identify Thai Medicinal Herbs

My girlfriend of 4 years is being treated with a tea she makes from a dried herb/plant.She has had womens plumbing issues for the last few years and for the last few months has been taking the tea.She says this has made a significant improvement to her condition. She has to drive 200 kilos to the person who treats her to get the herb and it costs 5000b for 2 kilos which last about a month. The practioner says she will need to take it for around a year.My problem is she will likely be visiting me in the UK shortly for the 4th time. This may be a problem 1 , with customs were she to bring in say upto 10 kilos of some unidentified plant material.

2, indentifing material for possibly buying more say from a UK chinese herbalist

She is at the moment unable to tell me what the herb is and even if she could it would be a thai name and then maybe only a local name.I would need its correct botanical name to check what it is and what properties it has. Anyone any ideas?

PM me with some decent pictures of the plant. My sister-in-law is a traditional Thai herbalist with a degree in that field. I'm sure she will help you, but I won't see her until the weekend.

a herbal novice expert is voicing his unheard voice /oxymoron isnt it.

Well now, from the 30 years i live in Thailand I had until recently Not heard or learned what inigenious medicine the volc is using on a DAILY basis.

Foreigners are kept in the dark.I gave my young wife shiiit, because she would not answer or get pnformations about local curesI grow now in my small garden, Mulberry bushes,Jiao Gulang vines,Baobab trees( Adansonia Digitata) and other herbal plants, and if I could stay away from the amber liquid live up to 120 years, with all my facultys intact(to some extend). I dont eed Viagra or Okasa silver to be fullfillingnnor do I rely on wunderdrugs issued by the pharmaceutical mafia, which are nothing less to extract the healing ingrediants from the almost free natural plants.

I cannot here disvulge what i do with my plants, and i take the medicine only myself,no commercial profit from that.

Interested? Surf the web, experiment with the offered advises, wont kill you ,the often bitter medicine, but better your health, mental, physical and otherwise.

Kraxi the lip.

Talk to me!!

Chines and Thai/ Indian and other volk mediciines and ointments are wunderful.

Hola, it must be the Jiao Gulang, the poor mans Ginseng.

I make for myself a connoction brewing some other herbs in the sud as well.

Yes J.G.is expensive,100grams of 175 baht seen at the airport.

But consider that J.G is not growing well (leaving/foiliage)all year around in the tropics, nether Mulbery or Baobab, and almost impossible to grow in temperate climate, like rambuttan or Durian for example.

I am now studying full time the (reminding herbal wealth of plants in Thailand)

I shall write sometimes a booklet what i find out.

There are others which tried, but running against a concrete wall if they enquire. Why/

My advise, and question?

Did your GF, know what she is taking-in drinking tea or swiling pills without knowing what the ingrediants are?

Coca Cola never revealed in full what the main or other ingrediants in their liquid are!!Unreal, could be Coca as the name implies??

well, I do find being classed as a novice expert voicing the unheard... I haven't heard stuff like that since Timothy Leary. Thing is, I'm not even a novice. My sister-in-law is the expert; I offered to show her pictures of the plant in question, from which she could provide the OP with a confirmed name. You have offered a name and description of the uses of the plant on the basis of the OP's post. You may be right, of course...as an expert in the field. But as with all chemicals (and isn't it the chemicals in the plants that you after?) an error could make a rather large difference in someone's life.

Hardly in the dark. I was reading a little bit about it before I moved here. And I've found the Thai very forthcoming in their responses to my questions on this subject. I've only been here a little over a year; you've been here 30 years, and never asked a question, never got a response? It's got to be rough feeling like a mushroom for 30 years

I cannot here disvulge what i do with my plants, and i take the medicine only myself,no commercial profit from that.

Ah, pity, that. I'm curious as to what you do with them. Why is it that you feel you can't share with us?

Yes, the information is out there, readily able to be shared! Talking with the actual practitioners of traditional herbal medicine is also a great place to start.

Thinking of the first line of your reply...I'll give you the benefit of doubt and say you're practicing Zen :)

And to the OP, the offer still holds :D

edit to add: Coca-Cola was developed by a pharmacist as a tonic way back when. One of its ingredients was Laudenum, thus giving the early advert's "The Pause that Refreshes"

Also...very little research has been done on the interactions between herbal remedies and pharmaceutical medicines. It's important that if you combine the two schools, you need to look for contraindication. At least one that I know of can be fatal, but the clerks in the health food stores don't know enough to ask the buyer if s/he is on that medicine.

Cheers!

Never seen the plant and she is uncertain of its name. She will be buying soon so will try again to get the name.

when you find out the name, let me/us know. I've been studying & using Chinese herbs & Thai herbs for 30 years.

There are some excellent Thai herbs. cures for kidney stones, libido and erectile dysfunction, food poisoning, diarrhea, constipation, etc., etc. There's also a neat herb/leaf that keeps the bugs out of rice, grain & flour.

What your wife may be taking could be a blood tonic for women but to be sure will need the name, written in Thai is fine.

Kafir Lime leaves are used in our house, not sure how effective that should be - I still find them in the rice.

hello JRinger, maybe you can help me. Do you have a Chinese herbalist you would recommend in Bangkok. I have a real bad case of Seborrheic Dermatitis. I am in the U.S. right now, but headed back to Thailand in three weeks. I've been to the VA hospital and am being treated by a Dermatoligist who has given me all kinds of salves and lotions for about three months now and nothing seems to work. I'm thinking there has to be something that can work from the inside out. ????

Coca Cola never ever contained laudenum (opium) which would be way too bitter anyway. However, for many decades it did contain coca leaves and thus a small amount of cocaine. Today Coca Cola still contains coca leaves, albeit de-cocainized leaves.

sorry but I don't know any herbalists in Bangkok.

Usually you can go to the herb shops (lots in China town) and the the guy behind the counter is usually quite knowledgeable and can in most cases help you out with probable success. There are several in China Town so you can go to a few and see if they recommend similar herbs.

One thing you may want to consider. I don't know your eating habits or diet, but in my experience, the herbs have a faster and longer effect if you eliminate certain things/foods from your diet: most specifically, milk & dairy products and artificial foods & fillers. Many times and in many cases you can cure and or eliminate problematic symptoms by cutting way down on your food intake or 'fasting' and drinking lot of water, preferably with lemon juice....in addition, there's lots of information on the web....just do search on "herbs for Seborrheic Dermatitis", "natural cures for Seborrheic Dermatitis", etc.

note: all the above is for informational purposes only and I assume no responsibility for unsatisfactory or other results.
