Hello,

I have access to the following Thai TV channels

nation 1

channel 5

channel 9

channel 11

ITV

ESPN 1

I know muay Thai is on TV every day in Thailand, but as I only speak (nit noi) Thai and cant read it i've got no chance of looking at TV guides for the above channels.

If anybody knows what time muay Thai is so on these (if any) channels. I live in UK so will have to adjust time accordingly.

Thank you to everbody who responds.

Perhaps I can help. The following are based on Thai time so you'll have to add or subtract depending on where you are:

Thai Tv:

Channel 3...every Saturday morning from 11:30-1:30

Channel 9....every Sunday starting from about 1:45-3:45

Channel 7.....every Sunday starting from 1:40/1:45-3:40/3:45

***Occassionally, big boxing shows from the major stadiums will be aired on Channel 5 on Saturday nights from 10:00-midnight; check www.muaythai2000.net for updates or any Thai newspaper (if somebody can read it for you)***

UBC (Thai satellite TV) Tuesday evenings from 5:00-7:00 and a rerun of that on Wednesday mornings from 10:00-noon

In the past, Muay Thai was aired practically everyday but I think this is no longer the case. I've lived here almost three years now and it's never been shown everyday. Most shows are not aired except the above and any special events such as the King's Birthday Event each December 5th.

Thank you very big Thaiboxer,

I knew it was on a couple of days a week. The village I stayed people went to a local shop, paid 20bt and watched it on TV outside. Atmosphere almost as good as being at a stadium, with the drinking, gambling (even had a couple of police come to watch), and general whooping and hollering.

The crowd really gets into Muay Thai...unlike in other countries where Western Boxing is simply watched without much cheering. Thais will often yell "dtee" ("hit") as each blow is landed by their favorite fighter. If you ever get a chance to see Muay Thai live, especially at one of the major stadiums, take it. The fighting and the atmosphere are fast-paced and exciting.

As for the gambling, this is one of the things that is causing the downfall of Muay Thai. Fights are often fixed or there is a side bet worth more than the prize money which is why boxers often just dance around instead of fighting. Also, the scoring isn't that good. In Western Boxing, each round is scored with the same consideration whereas in Muay Thai the last two rounds carry the most weight and certain weapons score less than others (punches score less than kicks for example).

I have "trained" muay Thai in the UK, but the watered down version (no knee and elbows to the head). Only done as keep fit, two nights a week for keeping fit purpose.

Have been a couple of times to Lumpine and Rajadamnern (still cant say this word), watched at chaweng stadium Koh Samui. On one visit to one of the Bangkok stadiums I was lucky enough to see them put on an exhibition fight, fighting muay boran (very very light contact if any) This was fantastic to see the art before it got made safe for the ring.

I think/know this is the best pure contact "sport" in the world, the only thing I like better is MMA (UFC and K1), but many of these have a good muay Thai background. It makes me chuckle when I watch the American kick boxing, and tae kwon do, flashy but totaly inefective a thai boxer.

I also watched it in a field, in the village I stayed at over Songkram, I was cheering for a boy of maybe 8 years old, he won, and his mother came over and thanked me very much for supporting him. Maybe she thought it was lucky for him, as I was the only ferrang there.
