New ESRI Thailand Street Map (TSM) v10.1 downloaded and installed today in my Nuvi 205. Disappointed because major new extension of highway #7 and intersection with highway #3, Sukhumvit Road, central Pattaya not shown.

Since it just opened a couple of weeks ago, that shouldn't surprise you. :) We'll be lucky is it's on the next version.

I know, but it has been under construction for a few years and not unreasonable for ESRI to have the road coordinates by now. TIT I suppose!

does anybody know where garmin in stock, i tried power buy both of them, carrfore, big c, tesco, tuk com, power buy rayong all out of stock, not sure about other brand names that are available. any ideas where else i can try please.

Below are two shops who will send a unit to your front door. Both of these offer very good after sales service. I think prices are comparable to to places who sell Garmin and do nothing else. I'd be willing to pay a bit more for the service.

besides what the OP mentioned, what are the differences/additions to this latest map, is it worth to pay & upgrade my current v.10 ESRI map

Didn't cost me a single baht to upgrade my ESRI TSM v10 to v10.1, map still under warranty - so to speak. Great service from ESRI.

ESRI v10.1 updates mostly for Junction View users, if supported.

Didn't cost me a single baht either - and my warranty ran out 2 years ago. :)

In process of downloading v10.1 file English (115MB) and firmware V250zip (339 MB)

TSM version 10.1 map update info

Updates in this version includes:

1.•New roads, bridges, and exits

2.•Add and update POIs with 530,000 points

3. •Add phone number link to POI to 130,000 points

4. •Add new exits on Highway mode

5.•Add multi-points entrance and exit of large premises

6. •Add and revised Junction View to be more than 850 points (Nuvi 1250, 215w, 1460)

7. •Add Lane info on the map (Nuvi 205, 205w, 215w, 1250, 1460)

Dammit, it's now working:

I followed instruction fo v10.1 EN map installation from http://www.gadgetrend.com/howtoinstall.php, however the following differences were noticed:

First, I made sure I clicked on to show all hidden files/folders in folder view.

Then I went into the F:/Drive which is my Garmin 1460 GPS

I clicked on the Garmin folder (per instructions there should be many files in this folder including the orignal gmapprom.img file) HOWEVER there only had 1 file in this folder- "Garmin Device" (XML Document), I then placed the gmapprom.img file into this "Garmin folder" (is this correct?). I could not find any other gmapprom.img file in the other folders or the Garmin F:/Drive.

Firmware installation

Again I made should Folder option showed all hidden files/folders

Instructions indicated there should be a "SYS Folder" and I must delete the "JCV folder"

However, I could not see any "SYS Folder" or "JCV folder" so I just unzipped the nuvi1460Thai_V250 OS Firmware into the Garmin F:/Drive.

I disconnected my Garmin GPS from computer, instructions mentioned the Nuvi1460 Thai will automatically update the firmware.

I then shut off and re-started my Garmin GPS, when checking Map & Firmware version it still shows v10 map and v240 firmware.

Please advise what am I doing wrong as instructions given did not exactly match up with what my Garmin 1460 GPS hard drive information

Does the map have this new bridge over the Chao Phraya river between Nonthaburi and Pathumthani? Its still not shown on Google Map so I have drawn it on. Its been open since last year so its not that new.

The instruction given are not for the newer models, Garmin 1460 etc., there are a couple of posts dealing with the new models. You can search through some of the recent postings until you find the comments.

WebUpdater from the Garmin website does not check the Thai OS firmware version, to the best of my knowledge. ESRI Thailand Street Map (TSM) v10.1 requires the corresponding Thai firmware version, available only from ESRI Thailand.

Everything is now working, maps on newer NUVI models are all located in the .System Folder, once I gained access to this folder, it was easy to update the Firmware & new v10.1 map

thx for all your help on this.

No, it doesn't.

I don't have Thai firmware, and I have a fully functioning copy of 10.1 on my Nuvi 260.

After some further research it seems IO is partially correct, in that apparently the JCV (3D junction view) and lane assist functions (for GPS units which have these features) will only work with the Thai firmware.

However, as I stated above, the normal map functions will operate without the Thai firmware.

How is your Junction View working? The Thai firmware version requirements have a lot to do with the Junction View function. Without Junction View you do not have a fully functioning copy of ESRI TSM v10.1.

Au contraire - on my nuvi 260 (as stated above) I have a fully functioning copy of this map.

Are you suggesting that this map was only made for, and is only suitable for, Garmin units which have JCV and lane assist?

ps did you bother to read the post which precedes yours?

had a few run ins with tersco about sat nav, stores selling diffent prices and out of stock, finally got one at lam chabang for 4990 205 nuvi. store diretor at Pataya north rang and said anybody who wants one go and ask for her personally and she will get them in stock. her name is kanya. otherwise lam chabang but i had to take photo down to show price should be 4990 not 7700. the reason they so helpfull i sent ceo in England e mail, so reginonal manager from Bangkok came down to see me.

From Eagle GPS - They would have it delivered to your front door via EMS;

Nuvi 205

THB 4 900 (including 7 % tax)

Just bought a Nuvi 205 today ( Wednesday) at Tesco North, Pattaya. Price on "promotion" flyer was 4,900 Baht. Later today saw it in Power Buy for the same price (so not much of a Promotion!!)

All paperwork in the box is in THAI ONLY. Downloaded the English language version manual from the Internet. That help me set the system to "United States" language (ie: English). For Quick Guide click here

Although the system language is set as "United States", but maps still in Thai only.

I see there is ESRI Software ver 10.1 on a CD in the box, with both English and Thai maps, but no instructions of how to set it to English, only an Excel file with instructions in Thai.

Looks like I will have to cut and paste the Thai instructions into Translate.google.com - That should be amusing to read :)

The Touch Screen in not accurate on my unit. I press "P" and "V" appears on the screen. May have to change the unit, but this usuful paragraph appears on an English .doc on the CD which says:

6. After purchasing, user has responsibility to test the effective of GPS device. If user finds any defects, user will have the right for swapping new GPS device (the same series) within 7 (seven) days. Please be noted that every devices MUST be in the same condition and full set as if it is a brand new package from the factory.

Have you tried to recalibrate the touchscreen?

Hold your finger on the top left of the screen for ± 20 secs while turning your unit on. This will then take you into the callibration screen.

Had the same Problem with same Garmin.

The Members here helped me in this Thread about a week ago.

Only needed 5 Minutes to change into Englisch.

Please look at http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Garmin-Nvi-205-t352932.html
