We as foreingers have no right to join in any protest against any goverment, elected or not. We have the right to debate or discuss what's going on but in no way have we any right to join in, we are not Thai and have no right to a vote here.

I, for one, enjoy living here (away from all the shit going on in Bangkok) and enjoy many a discussion with friends, Thai, about what is happening in "their" country.

We should keep our opinions to boards such as these and keep off the streets.

I am a foreigner living in Thailand now for more than 20 years. I have my opinions about this and many other situations here in Thailand , and I feel free to express them...... WITHIN my circle of friends and accquantainces, but not on a stage in a public rally. That is not my place.

We foreigners are GUESTS in this country. Any foreigner who publically protests at a open rally, such as is going on in BKK now, is trying to upset/overthrow the government and should be escorted to the airport and deported immediately.

People should know better, when to open and when to keep their mouths closed and opinions to themselves. There are places to express your opinions, but on stage or at a public rally is definitely not one of them.

Immigration, pick them up and show them the door.

Apparently the Thai wife [some of whom can become very rabid with their opinions] have them by the short and curlies. The effect is that these foreigners are not thinking , but reacting with the wrong head.

My opinion is foreigners open you mouth in protest, close the door to this country that we all love as guests in a beautiful place.

Just where EXACTLY in the report does it state that the Westerners supporting the movement are "educated" people?!?! Do do you simply assume that all the people from the West are educated? Well said. I never understood about white Thai women with nose jobs and translucent skin (from all the whitener) being the preffered option for Bangkok expat falangs.

The racist overtones against poorer darker (from working harder and not having tons of disposable income to whiten their skin) northerners is sickening. As is calling them ignorant, bribed, uneducated, too stupid to vote. It is this that has got the elite into such trouble since the coup.

you, like me have obvisouly learned the joys of life in the north. The warm friendship, the fun and laughter and smiles that contrast so much with the cold detached faces on the bangkok tube every morning.

It would appear that they are quite happy with this. Personally I don't care as I would never settle here permanently anyway. Having said that I do believe that Thai's should be treated the same when they move to other countries in a retaliatory fashion. The EU does this all the time in 'trade wars', retaliatory measures regarding import duties with countries which break the rules and apply unfair practice, mostly the US. I live in hope that one day they will apply the same counter measures against countries which treat Europeans differently to their own citizens, they have the power to do it.

I sincerely doubt that the EU will ever stoop that low... besides, can you imagine what all the human rights activists would do/say? They'd be all out on the streets protesting against such inhuman measures.

Of course its wrong for farang to get involved in political protest, but to say that we have no idea on Thai politics is just plain wrong, living out of Thailand at the moment I have access to books that are not even availible in Thailand, books that may show just how Thai politics really works.

I do not have an objection in principle to foreigners involving themselves in other national politics.

There are both positive and negative examples which one can argue about.

I assume that the picture of the expat on the red shirts stage is over the age of 18, so it is his responsibility to assess the risks.

If he wants to support the reds that's up to him.

I am not going to say that he should not support the reds because he is a foreigner.

If it is the case that the reds have invited a foreigner to sit on their stage, then there is less of a likelihood of contributors to TV being told to shut their mouths because they are foreigners.

It won't stop accusations being made against the English press and forums as institutions being accused of having a foreign agenda.

Also, and nobody has reported otherwise, no foreigners have been attacked as a group during the current conflict.

There were one or two veiled threats on the forum about not getting involved or else last week.

Hopefully that will be contained.

Join at your own risk. I don't think the Reds are straight shooters, beware of friendly fire and bottles to the head from the back. Probably the Army's not much better. Foreigners and journalists make great targets to stir the international community.

BTW, it seems rather mind boggling how easy it is to strip, take away, or steal the firearms of the police/army. In the west I believe a soldier would die first rather than relinquish his/her weapon. Foreigners beware!

Saw the fellow in the pic at Swampy on Thursday morning with his wife, still dressed in his Truth Today t-shirt. I did not see anyone in the domestic departures talk to him but he did get a few funny looks.
