commons
can somebody explain to me how over 250 soldiers got wounded, most by gunshots and grenades? ?? The red shirt TERRORISTS have the grenades and have weapons with real bullets not plastic as used by the army. I respect the PM for what he has done he has played it well with warning after warning request after request, Agreed to hold elections. What more can he do??? But still it was not good enough for the terrorists. I hope they get another round of smacking later today. Quite frankly they deserve everything they are getting. quite a few commentators like you here keep calling the reds "terrorists" and are very anti-red. are you one person with many accounts here in thaivisa as mentioned by jinxgthing or you several people with several accounts here? :D :D you're not one of those undercover/ghost writers of the police who is interested in what farangs think, are you? paranoia isn't necessarily a function of a bright mind, huh? firestar
ImageThis image says it all. Total f****** animals. Your telling me they want a peaceful protest. Or was this one of their FAKE REDS? A single image with no background story tells it all, animals... yeah right So what does this (much more detailed) account by an English teacher make the soldiers and government? http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/8613482.stm
helvetian
The army says they only shot live ammunition "into the air". Do they really think that the bullets stay up there? Or do they come down somewhere? If someone is hit by the bullets falling back down onto earth, aren't the army responsible for this?

moresomekl
.People who say the reds were only doing a sit in may be professional red propagandists. It is not imaginable that a normal person would actually believe that. Don't forget, there are professional pols posting here. I don't know why they care what foreigners think though. I said they were attacked at their sit in. They did other things too but never killed anyone in the process. Those things gave no one the right to attack them with military weapons. Bear in mind they returned weapons taken from the police and army this week some of which were probably used against them The soldiers shot themselves and threw bombs on themselves? Yes there was one poster here who reported that some soldiers shot other soldiers who refused to shoot on the protesters , he said it was on yahoo Unconfirmed . Hopefully a NEUTRAL enquiry will establish the truth

gk10002000
Well, let's not forget the sequence of events. A few years ago the military overthrew the legally elected government. Tossed out the constitution. A little later the PM was judged poorly by the people and he was let go. Military still in control. Unusual constituion was "voted", but it gave no choices or limited choices. Now this group of people does not like the government? Well, can't keep throwing out constitutions and governments when it is convenient, otherwise the cycle repeats. Thailand is such a wonderful place, but how can I go there now for my 10th trip if BKK is so much in turmoil?

gotglue
My thoughts on all this is how can the reds win against the army? I mean the army got rid of Taksin because they could not stand his blatent corruption and ego. Now the army back the government. So who will win? I will let you work it out. Thailand cannot go on like this. We all have to obey the law. Life isn't fair but most of these red shirts have access to education and can make a better life for themselves, but alot of them choose not to. So they end up with the jobs no one wants and are on the lower rungs of society. Some people are privileged but the rest of us have worked hard for where we are... "but alot of them chose not to". advanced member or not, but <deleted> are on about, and where's your head at? what exactly is your perspective on this country? Sunderland
I think the army will now consider that there is now only one way out of the current chaos and there will be a coup either in the next few hours or by lunch-time tomorrow. It is not what they want, nor what many people are willing to accept. However, it is the only way to regain some control over the city centre and keep more people from coming in. There will be those who disagree. I accept that. Although the reds played more than their part in this episode, I think it will be extremely hard for Abhisit to continue as Prime Minister after this. He was perhaps not directly responsible in the sense that I think he was left with little options while being squeezed to do something by Suthep, the army and the amart. I am sure he feels that he has been let down. It will be difficult to have the country behind him after this. There will always be scapegoats in this kind of situation regardless of who started firing at who. That is how Thai politics has worked for a long time. So I am expecting to see an unpopular coup take place with quite a lot of tension in the air this week. What follows will depend on if the various factions can actually sit around a table and find a way out of this mess. In the meantime the army will have to try and take care of the country. mdechgan
I think there is 3 different groups within the reds... 1. The hiranking reds (bet Mr T has promissed them a fat bank account if they can overthrow the Government.2. The hulligans 3. The ones how want a change I think there were about 6 groups. 1. The top brass that can't agree amongst themselves. Weng, Jautporn, Nutthawat, Arisman, etc. I have no respect for these. One of them couldn't make a living singing so he now has to do their durty work for handouts. 2. Hard core aka Seh Daeng. He was kicked out though. Some say he was too radical. 3. The hooligans, these guys are doped and want a fight. Must be the hot weather or hormones in the BBQ chicken. 4. The ones who blindly love Thaksin and hate the yellows, the monarchy, Gen Prem, etc. 5. The real leaders like Chaturon, Sudarat, etc. that stays behind the scenes but are smart enough to distance themselves from the publicised leaders. 6. losworld
The true color of the Redshirts is being shown... nothing but a bunch of armed thugs playing peaceful until this moment in time. Automatic rifles, hand grenade launchers and we are supposed to believe their full intent is peaceful? Thaksin will kill thousands to get his money back. This has left a very sour impression of Thailand.

I think it's negotiations with some serious plan B's being evaluated, from both sides.

moresomekl
From a Red Shirt protester: when i was in the rally this evening, the mood was overwhemling excited, joy, crowed, lots of noice, lots of people but when we hear that the red shirts have lose their lives everything changed. the picture of those people who loose the life were shown in the projecter. i was sitting beside one lady. the leader started to... play the martydom songs, although i didn't understand the song but i feel the song & i feel the changed environement. slowly my tears started to fall down after seeing those pictuers frm phan pha. i can't control myself. it's said that if you are man you shouldn't cry but this quote was wrong today. i expreance it. i look around me , & got the same result. woman with tears & emotionally shocked i'm really sorry for those who lost their life. these people are the real hero., a true martyer. these people name should be written in the history book fighting for democracy. these people deserve it. i'll pray for god may be their soul be peace in heaven. a deeply condolence to their family too.this will be a moment ...i'll never forget in my life. wherever i go, i'll always carry these memories. these people who lost their life are my real hero. The people that have no idea why they are there and are just there for a good time, free money, food travel, etc. Just to clarify a point there.. point 4 That's also part of the problem, the 'Reds' have just as strong feelings for the 'M' word. The 'logo', or 'branding' however was hijacked by the other side though! Believe me, the passion for the unspeakable is just as strong with the majority of the reds... in my opinion from what i have observed. Sure there are things talked about, but nothing that the average BK yellow doesn't talk about... The best models have to be western european for this country. Any attempts to classify the red shirts as multiple separate groups are attempts at misdirection. The truth is they're all colluding with Thaksin directly on how to proceed. sokal
Free speech is a responsibility that not many people understand how to carry... Agree. Can these people really handle a true democracy.? They might be better off under a military dictatorship.? Dont agree with that. Look at people in the west, we don't hold our government's feet to the fire for anything. Our governments can get away with anything because people do nothing about corruption.
