Political Correctness

Recommended Posts

The following article appeares in today's Daily Mail:

Comedians could be forced to sign a declaration promising to be politically correct before they take to the stage.

The action, demanded by Newcastle city council would ban them from making jokes about gays and lesbians or ethnic minorities.

The move comes after calls for the controversial comedian Roy 'Chubby' Brown to be banned from performing at the council owned city hall - even though there have been no complains about his act in 20 years of performing at the venue.

Instead of banning comedians, councillors say they may introduce the declaration as a means of ensuring performers do no breach the council's 'social inclusion' policy.

The issue was raised by officials of the union Unison who said they had received complaints from members who attended a performance at the City Hall two years ago.

There have also been complaints to the council from members of the lesbian, gay and bisexual community in Newcastle.

Obviously not much fun being lesbian, gay or bisexual in Newcastle.

Not much to laugh about for the straights, either.

Which would all be very sad if it had anything to do with Thailand.

For a pretty good rundown on how the PC zealots (and the craven management who yield to them) go about making life miserable for the rest of us, you might like to pop in here.

http://www.tonguetied.us/

As someone whose father was born as near to the centre of Liverpool as is possible - in Bootle - I can assure you no one who comes from Liverpool would be offended by being called a scouser.

As every Liverpudlian knows, Scouse is a dish of culinary perfection, way beyond the skills of Gordan Blue chefs, only ever really perfected by one's Mum (provided, of course, she also hails from the Cultural Capital of Europe).

We had a teacher from liverpool who seemed to take offense at being called a scouser, and I have run into the odd middle class sort who did not like the term either.

The problem with all this PC macarthyism is that while well meaning and helpfull up to a point, it so often goes into the realms of nonsense and ends up doing more harm to 'social inclusion' than good. Nobody knows what the list of do's and do nots is, as people seem to make it up for themselves, even on here.

Poor old chubby will have to stick to sex jokes and they left the disabled out so he can take the piss out of them maybe

One of the things I like about Thai's is that they are not afraid to speak their mind.

This has to be as near insanity as PC gets. I heard a spokesman, sorry spokeperson (it was a tart) for the potato council of Gt Britain on radio 4 this morning. They want the phrase 'couch potato' dropped from the OED and not used in the media. Not as you might think because it offends lazy fat bastards slouched in front of the TV all the time, but because it is derogatory to the poor old spud. Anyone for the potato liberation front?-peter

and there are bars in Bangkok which are strictly Japanese only.

Yes, and don't forget to notice how absent Thai male patrons are from many Farrang owned bars.

There used to be a bar in Chieng Rai that had a sign that said "No Jews Allowed".

It's still common for 'Hill People' to be told to sit in the rear of the local busses because the Thais say they stink too much.

There is a distinction between over zealous political correctness and downright ignorance.

Oh yeah...I am new to this group.

PC is all about control. Interest groups create new euphemisms to be used in public speech to change the way people might look at something, this covers up the truth of the situtation thus making it harder or easy for other groups to follow through with their casues.

If you PC summed up listen to or watch Geogre Carlin's (my childhood teacher) Parental Advisory:Explicit Lyrics as he talks about the change of the term shell shock to post-traumatic stress disorder and this change in speaking helped toward ignore Vietnam Vets medical care, that the gov didn't want to pay.
