Attempted rape of a Japanese Tourist by Pattaya Motorbike Taxi Driver

PATTAYA:-- Just before 5am on Wednesday Police were called to the Yinyom Beach located close to the Bali Hai Port in South Pattaya following information of an attempted rape involving a Japanese Tourist. The 20 year old woman, who’s name we have been asked to withhold, was in a distressed state and it was clear she had been involved in a violent tussle with her suspected attacker.

Hope the police catch the cretin.

I don't think that 'cretin' is a suitable description of this violent Thai male motorcycle sex fiend.

I am confident that he will be caught, but will the punishment fit the crime?

I doubt it. He will be back on the prowl within hours after paying a 500 baht fine.

Should do wonders for the ever plumeting Thai and Pattaya tourist numbers :)

And all female tourists should be given a warning (possibly during hotel check-in) not to use moto-taxis (or certainly not without a male companion) or to be sure to look for a female driver (not many but they are around).

This report in PDN says "attempted" rape. In Pattaya One News it is described as a rape.

Can Howard please clarify?

No, it was PDN who said it was a rape.

On his website, Howard has stated it was attempted.

This story is confusing - the young lady left the Hotel to go to a convenience store (at 2a.m.) and then can't remember where her Hotel is? Sorry but where did she walk to? I am not saying the story of what happened to her is not true am just confused as to how she could get lost.

Anyone know of any other two cities in the world that have more crime against tourists than Pattaya or Phuket?

Brazil (when I was there, armed gangs would walk into a restaurant and rob everybody there...you NEVER went out alone at night)

Anywhere in Haiti or Colombia

Pretty much any city in Africa (While in E. Africa, I pretty much never went out after dark)

And of course my favorite, Detroit, USA! Could probably put almost any large US inner city in this list also... :)

Not to make light of a serious assault but I am not sure there are many cities in the world that could be considered safe for a 20 yr old foreign women to walk around alone, and clearly some distance as well if she couldn't find her way back to the Hard Rock, at 2am in the morning.

Please don't read this comment as suggesting it was in any way her fault though when, clearly, it is the scum that attacked her that needs to be dealt with.

You are Japanese..........maybe it is your first time to Thailand.......first to Pattaya........you walk out of your hotel at night down the street and maybe are focusing on the sights and sounds of Pattaya.....it would not be that hard to get confused about where you are, especially if the hotel was not in sight.

It would then make sense to ask for assistance from a "motorcycle taxi driver."

Some people have a terrible sense of direction. Maybe she is one of them.

Port Moresby.

Robbery & beaten to death, raped and mutilated within 60 seconds if unescorted by armed escorts at night.

What happened is truly horrible. I do hope they catch the scum. In my first trip to Brazil, I had no idea of the problem in Rio. If you are alone, and catch a taxi, and you are a tourist, there are good odds you will get robbed. The taxi takes a particular street, guys jump out in front (his friends), put a gun in your face...

Plus, she was probably drunk. It also happens in New York City...was a fairly common occurrence with single gals heading home in a taxi after a night of clubbing....

sick....

PDN have issued an "update" which is not much of an update apart from them admitting they were wrong to say it was rape and it was indeed an attempted rape as PON originally reported. Either way it is a terrible crime and I hope they find the guy responsible.

:) I don't think Port Morseby, Haiti and Detroit are considered tourist destinations.

Actually, I did a search on the most dangerous places for tourists...Haiti was in the top 5. I personally visited Detroit as a tourist. I lived near Chicago. There is the fantastic Henry Ford Museum...and of course the Ren Cen. So people do visit Detroit as tourists...but you are right...few international tourists would visit there...

Sorry about that. Being out of the country is playing havoc with my acronyms.
