Tomorrow (Friday 23rd April) is, of course St. George's Day and English people around the world will be celebrating (well some will!!) and as a British Pub, we at The Olde Bell will be marking the day with a BBQ in honour of the great dragon slayer.

There'll be a few patriotic songs as well and the best news is that subect to spending a minimum of 240 baht on drinks (That's about four pounds ninety five at current rates) its FREE!

There'll be kebabs, steaks, chcken livers, sausages and fish and a range of salads and it all starts at around 7.30pm. All welcome!

Actually dug out the Cross of St George this morning, but decided it may cause confussion to fly it from the car. Will wait for the football to start.

Iain

When I was living in the London borough of Lewisham, the local pubs were banned from flying the flag of St. George in case it inflamed racial tensions. Flying the Nigerian flag after they won a couple of world cup football matches excited no similar degree of reproach....maybe that's why we're all here!

Anyway, St. Geoge will be breathing nothing more venomous than barbecue fire at The Olde Bell tomorrow eve, with a few tasty morsals atop it!!

"Saint George (ca. 275/281 – 23 April 303) was, according to tradition, a Roman soldier and priest in the Guard of Diocletian, who is venerated as a Christian martyr. In hagiography Saint George is one of the most venerated saints in the Roman Catholic Church, Anglican Church, Eastern Orthodox Church, Oriental Orthodox Church, and the Eastern Catholic Churches. He is immortalized in the tale of Saint George and the Dragon and is one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. His memorial is celebrated on 23 April, and he is regarded as one of the most prominent military saints.

Saint George is the patron saint of Aragon, Catalonia, England, Ethiopia, Georgia, Greece, Lithuania, Palestine, Portugal, and Russia, as well as the cities of Amersfoort, Beirut, Fakiha, Bteghrine, Cáceres (Spain), Ferrara, Freiburg, Genoa, Ljubljana, Gozo, Milan, Pomorie, Preston, Qormi, [(Rio de Janeiro)], Lod, Barcelona and Moscow, as well as a wide range of professions, organizations, and disease sufferers."

As English as fish and chips :)

I say! That sounds rather spiffing!

Where is The Olde Bell?

Happy St George's Day to all.

I always forget, thanks for the reminder.

Assuming you don't need directions all the way from Pattaya, Jonathan!, once you've got to Chiang Mai, The Olde Bell is on Loi Kroh Rd (The main entertainment street) about 300 metres from the moat, next door to the Raming Lodge Hotel and behind the Yellow Bank of Ayuthaya ATM & Foreign exchange booth. If you get lost give the pub a ring on 087-811-9468 and we'll try to help you!

As I said things start of around 7.30pm
