Garmin Service In Thailand

Featured Replies

I have a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx that is still under warranty. The rubber water-proofing gasket that runs around the edge of the device has come unglued and is too stretched out to be re-glued. Garmin says they will repair under warranty, but I have to ship to Taiwan. The shipping costs, round trip, will be in excess of $60.00.

Is there no place in Thailand that can provide the replacement part and do the repair? It would seem that would be much less expensive than shipping the thing overseas.

I was told that ESRI Thailand is doing some simple repairs. Best is to contact them and see what they say and/or can do.

I ended up doing the repair myself. I put the rubber gasket in the fridge for two days and this shrunk it down to the proper size. I affixed it to the GPSr with some silicone based gasket cement. Worked like a charm. The gasket is now quite solid and everything works like new.

Great idea. What a rip off Garmin is at times. We have same problem with our Etrex's and the silly rubber outer covers. I used to have a GPS48 back in the 90's and back then to fix a minor screen disp issue meant shipping back to the USA at a cost more than a new model.

It is often outside Europe and USA....And all the companies fake on the shipping costs.

I think the roundtrip to Taiwan would be max 20-30 USD. They have other shipping rates for both import and export.

My experience with Garmin is that they are more helpful than many others.
