In the latest move to avoid the current crackdown, the Red Shirts have abandoned the color red. They are now the Rainbow Shirts.

My theory is they don't want to wear red shirts because then when they are photographed committing violent crimes, they can more easily deny it was red shirts who did it. This whole drop the red short gambit happened immediately after the video came out showing red shirts throwing grenades at Sala Deang station. Its is also a guerrilla/propaganda tactic. They know they don't have intimidating numbers but if they can't be identified by color they can more easily lie about how many they have to try to intimidate the public. Of course they can also more easily infiltrate into opposition protests and among civilians to launch violent attacks. Thailand, I think, is sick and tired of being held hostage by these lawbreakers.

Jingthing, I read about 20 or so of your posts, you have a very strange point of view. This time you have completely missed the point. By removing the red shirts they are now Thai people once again. This puts the government , the military, and police against all the Thai people as they can no longer isolate one group distinguished by a color or uniform. Let me make this simple, if a fight breaks out nobody is going to be out-of-bounds.

You are not the first person to call me strange. You are clearly a red shirt apologist. I never will be. 'Nuff said.

A naive rather than a "strange" theory. If everyone was gullible enough to identify those "committing violent crimes" purely by the colour of their shirts there would be a lot of "yellows" wearing red shirts and "reds" wearing yellow shirts busily getting photographed - or maybe there are.

When you're strange, Faces come out of the rain

When you're strange, No one remembers your name

So jing, I see the weather lady is predicting T-storms over the next day in Pattaya. Does this mean you will be uber strange and will the baht bus drivers remember your name?

And why do you call anyone and everyone that does not share your point of view a "Red Apologist"?

It's not as if the Reds have to apologize to you for anything they do, unless you believe all those people should prostrate themselves before the mighty farang presence and go "oh thank you dear foreign visitor for coming to Thailand and exploiting our poverty and using our nation's resources because you could not make a life for yourself in your homeland. Your foreign presence with your gifts of genius and bounty enriches us all. Without your superior foreign presence we would be nowhere. Our lives have no meaning unless we can serve you, the all knowing and very hansum foreigner."

Maybe if if more foreigners showed these locals some concern they might be more subservient. Why just the other day, I saw one of our servants lying in the soi. I think he had been in a crash as he was bloodied. Either that or he had a bad nose bleed. Anyway, I had my driver stop and I lowered my window to give him a pip pip and to not despair before I went off to my appointment. It is very important to demonstrate a concern even if feigned when one deals with the help. I believe they are very appreciative when a white person acknowledges them as it validates their existence.

PS. Be sure to bring the brollie with you tomorrow lest you get wet. Wouldn't want you to get even stranger.

edit: And no this is not a personal attack, just an expression of annoyance at the assumption that a group of people that have been frustrated for decades are expected to apologize when the anger and resentment brought on by years of abuse, discrimination and disdain comes to a head. Spend some time as one of these Redshirts and you too would be protesting.

I completely agree with Jingthing, he’s spot on.

All these shirted mobs are just thugs and terrorists.

Just another dirty trick ploy so as they are able to continue perpetrating their violence and thuggery with less risk of getting caught.

With whatever colored shirt they may wear, the 'red shirts' are readily identifiable: They will probably still hold those silly party noise-makers and cheer every time Wattanut sets himself before an open microphone -- if someone told Kuhn W. there was an open microphone and Jumbotron sound system waiting for him in Saraburi, he'd probably go there post-haste.

from dictionary.com: dem·a·gogue

(noun) 1.a person, esp. an orator or political leader, who gains power and popularity by arousing the emotions, passions, and prejudices of the people.
