My work permit expires 31 May 2010. I want to go back home (USA) before school starts in June and I would also like to go to Viet Nam in May ...so I in in a quandry...

My university is dragging their feet on the paperwork for the work permit renewal even though I signed my contract renewal two months ago. If I somehow manage to get them to renew it early before I leave for Viet Nam will this cancel my existing multiple re-entry permit so I would have to pay another 3,800 baht early?

The only reason I would want them to renew early is so I can make my plane reservation home. The only reasonable fares are non-refundable and the fees to change are quite expensive so I need to know exactly when I can travel. I can't go home in early May and do the work permit when I return...I have reasons for needing to be there (bank CD renewals) at the end of May-beginning of June. The banks have changed ownership since I have been abroad so withdrawals must be done in person.

You should really be telling us when your permission to stay expires.

Renewing you work permit will have no effect on your re entry permit.

That said your work permit will only be extended upto the expiry date of your permission to stay.

If you have to extend your permission to stay then the answer to your question is Yes. Your multi re entry will become invalid.

As said above, your work permit has nothing to do with your re-entry permit.

Your re-entry permit becomes invalid when your permisison to stay ends. If you extend your permisison to stay early, the new extension will still start on the day your current permission to stay (and with that your current re-entry permit) expires.
