Petrol Scams

Featured Replies

My wife was driving and we were coming back to Khon Kaen from Jomtien after a few days at the beach.

I was half asleep and we stooped at the Highway 2 service stop in Chonburi towards Bkk.

The petrol price was around the same as normal and she asked for a 1000baht(I normally just fill up).

Our filling cap is on the nearside so you can't see the pump.

anyway he said 1000baht and she paid and only after driving a few hundered metres back on the highway i noticed the guage didn't go up to what it should have.

They put 500 or maybe 600baht in and charged her 1000baht so be warned everyone.

In 10 years i have never had this happen although i normally fill up rather than ask for an amount.

sorry for your luck mate but 10 years driving in thailand.. should be out more.

anyway theres one Shell near south Pattaya that does this scam all the time to motorcycles tho (i experience it once)

I saw this one time and I had to complain. They use the pump that is already used by another motorist and they don’t zero it out and continue to pump to your request.

Now I make sure I check the pump before they start putting gas in my car

"The petrol price was around the same as normal and she asked for a 1000baht(I normally just fill up)." - I don't see then what you have to make your comparison with - was it just that the gauge didn't go to where you expected? - most gauges are in fact very unreliable and can give very misleading readings in between empty and full.

You'd need to let the gauge sink back to the position it was when you re-filled - but your were asleep then - and buy another 1000 baht at the same price to be sure.

I've had the car 5 years so i know exactly where the guage should go and infact because it was underfilled i had to put another 1000 baht in further up the road so we could get home which we wouldn't have needed to do.

At the second place the guage moved to the correct position for 1000 baht of fuel.

If i wasn't sure of what happened in Chonburi i wouldn't have made this post and so i don't accuse people lightly.

If i wanted to complain the time i drove to the next exit and back the othher side and u turn and back to the station they would have said there was no proof or my guage was faulty but believe me i know different.

I don't mean to sound nosey but what Car do you drive, and how much does a fill from empty usually cost ?

Ditto, same place maybe 15 years ago - they managed to put 6 litres of petrol in a 4 litre tank!

FYI:

Petrol Station Hotline 1569

This one seems to be a dedicated telephone line for these kind of issues

Same location, same situation just last week.... I did look up the phone # for the petrol company, had the Thai wife call and lodge a complaint... She was told that they are investigating that station and they were sorry we had the problem... Probably the same answer they give any callers, but at least the lady did ask what time it happened and for her to discribe the person who pumped the fuel...
