No water at all in my small estate of 15 houses for 4 days now. I live in chaweng near the PTT station and we are on govt water.

who else has got this problem?

is this happening everywhere or just chaweng?

is there any way this could possibly get better without rain? luckily we have 2 communal toilets/showers where I stay which some how have water . however the novelty of camping in my own house is wearing thin... might move if this carries on.

any thoughts appreciated on how long this could go on...

About 5 months ago my area (Maenam) where there are approx. 50 houses, we all got together and decided to have the government water connected as the bore water we were getting was always dirty with that reddish/orange tint. The government gave a quote for each household of around 14k which included the main pipes from the road to go around the estate and also the meters etc. Then of course after only 1 month the pressure deserted us. Had a little pressure from midnight through to about 6am but this made it difficult to shower at reasonable times. In the end had to spend another 12k on pump and tank. But still only very little pressure from the mains and only early morning hours. I can hear the water filling my tank only by putting my ear to it as it is just a trickle. But not every day is there even this trickle. Some days nothing !

I work in Chaweng and as of yesterday we have no running water in our building! We have had to resort to a bucket of water next to the toilet lol

Hi all, I live in Bophut near Makro and the water shortages have been ongoing here for at least 12 months now, could only get water into my tank after 2am if we were lucky. Phoned the Gov't water in Nathon 12 months ago and they asked "where do you live" when I told them they laughed and said we were on the top of the hill and would be lucky to get any??? (Water pressure at best is non existent).

The latest if you read the Samui Express is Samui will not have any water left in reserve by the end of the month without substantial rainfall before then. (which looks doubtful). :)

Driving around the ring road, some people have started putting in a well & selling the water I suppose.

We have a water capture system here and when no water we get it trucked in. I had expected the price to go up when water has been short but still the same price and readily available. Those posting with tanks should get the tank filled by truck then trickle fill with the Government water ? It was good to see a little rain this morning which has put some reserve in the tanks.

Beautiful ladies are always welcome to come soak in a bath :):D

Where does the "government water" come from?

Hin Laad Waterfall, no rain, NO water, simple as that!

Simple as that, the "government" can't make water...!

who can still use the contents of his head, could come to the valuable conclusion that

what has been going on on Samui could impossible be sustained over a lengthy period of time!

zillions of swimming pools, laundries, Spa's, lawns, gardens, nurseries, restaurants, road side soup kitchens,

mega shopping malls, golf courses, driving ranges.....development far and wide - how can the scarce resources support this all?

How?

On top of this all, degrading forest's, coconut trees cut down, more and more precious water catchment areas are filled

and sealed.....

The results are inevitable!

There have been always dry years... but the enormous development hasn't stopped and won't be soon!

How big a proposed pipeline from the mainland's watershed areas should be and how long would it take to realize such

ambitious project?

Well........anyone?

it's time to install water tank, governement water is totally unreliable...

Water tank might last you a day, best to remember never buy unless you are over a reliable watertable, even our shallow garden bore is working all year round, but of course the farang developers omit to tell you that. Cheeze !

The coconut PALMS should be cut down and replaced by the correct trees for Samui, the ones that were originally cut down to make coconut palm farming possible. Coconut palms belong on the shore line, not inland. My house is in a valley, not halfway up a hill, so have a shallow 'well', always lots of clean water. :)

Here in Plai Laem is a water desalination plant that turns out alot of water every day. And in Lipa Noi just beside the Land Transport Office there is another one under construction and as it looks like, it should be finished soon.

Besides these water supplies, every house should have rain gutters which are collecting the rainwater from the roof and perhaps from a terrace and feed it to a big tank under each house. These tanks can also be fed by government water. This means, of course, that you need a pump and maybe also a filter and another fresh water tank. This costs a little bit in the beginning but it is worth every baht invested after a while of dry weather.

cheers

Carlos

btw I am also waiting for some heavy rain....

god a well already thanks. i am cool touch wood !

anyway we cannot blame our selves for the weather. there is drought all over thailand. people would not build these houses and shopping malls if people did not want them. well all like them and we all want to live a nice life with swimming pools and tropical sunshine., most of us did not come here to live in a bamboo hut. i am sure u don't either Samuian. if so it must be a luxury 1 with an intenet connection.

the human race cannot blame its self for every natural disaster. just a cop out if u ask me. like u said there has always been dry years. up north where the river is running dry. are we to blame for that as well.

wow next time it rains and u get caught out on a motor bike with a 10 km ride. why not blame me for the rain and blame me when it is too hot and too cold. infact the weather man has a holiday. we all used to blame the weather man when they down casted rain. now we blame ourselves. media twist. arhhh coffee please another cup garson. now whats next mmy fault the coffee feilds have run dry

yes get a water tank. u can buy a big water truck and pump it in for about 5 - 600 baht per big truck about 250 or 300 for a small one.

Now its easier to tell the rich from the poor smelly people with a sniff. Maybe a good time to go to the beach and have a swim every day. :)

This is a reminder that you cannot get more from the nature than the nature is willing to give back.

The last years ( after the tsunami) there has been a huge development and building in Samui. Billions of money have been put in new hotels, resorts and bungalows, all with swimming-pools by private investment.

Unfortunable the local goverment don`t have the same amount of money, so there have been a great big lack of following up the infrastructure. And now we all have to pay the price of that.

And still the are movements to bring more people her, and at the same time there are suggestion to cut down the coconut palms. Somebody have to take a break.

Or why not put green asphalt all over the island?

would like to go green and use solar electric but the panels are just too expensive.

as for rich and poor. i don't think many poor can afford to live here.

as foor gold caurse stealing water. i disagrea. they use the water naurallyt provided by the sky. Anyway, if this island is to savive then it has exept it is a business island. Which needs golf coarses and big hotels and treas chopped down. can plant new treas in different treas to support the style of the buildings. anyway we need trees and grass because it adds to the natural surroundings and makes the place look better. simple samui is turning from a jungle to a gardern. which is what samui needs to promote.

:D DONT use water from the lake, it is polluted and will leave you itching and scratching. However DO use the water that exits from the Water Treatment Plant (next to Chaweng police station) into the klong. Well that was the main idea, though the mega baht Treatment Plant has yet to be turned on ! :)

i use these people haven't had a problem 077422121 not sure on the name they are opposite tescos just before the traffic likes.

It's not a problem that Samui is overdeveloped but that it's underdeveloped in terms of public infrastructure. There has been some talk about constructing a water reservoir in Meanam over many years. This would be the first proper water storage facility on the island and a big step towards making water supply more plentiful and reliable. Unfortunately nothing has come out of it which borders on disgrace.

In the meantime I can recommend World View Water (I think) on the left of the road just pass the lights after Chaweng Tesco (going towards Lamai). Their water is of good quality and not too expensive. I think 200 THB small truck and 500 THB a large one.
