Astro

Hi

I have DSTV multichoice and need to change.

I have read about Astra from JSAT TV.

Does anyone use this and can you reccomend it?

It mentions affected by weather, just how much is it affected?

Is there any other options for me. I like all sports but cricket, rugby and football especially as well as a decent English news channel?

Hi,

I used JSAT before and I cannot recommend it. When I subscribed, I had 3 networks (Telkom, Astro Malay and DSTV) then during the first year two if them dropped and I was left with DSTV only. The connection often dropped also, and a modem reboot was necessary (almost daily basis).

At renew time, they asked the same annual fees for 1 network only, and they clearly said that they cannot guarantee that they can even keep that one up as they use card sharing and have no control on the signal. The sales service was less than friendly and they actually seemed happy to not have me as returning customer just because I wanted to know what I would get for my money.

I'm not even sure if the Dreambox that they sold me is a real one or a fake; many people on TV said that JSAT sells fake Dreambox at the price of authentic ones. But I have no proof for that one (yet).

Just my experience... There must be people with better experience than me out there.

With the standard dish size Astro suffers from rain fade, just like True.

A larger dish, say 1m, should cure the problem.

I heard someone mention that Astro are now linking the card with the receiver so the cardsharing for Astro seems to be reaching the end of the road too...

In Chiang Mai legit Astro is available for less than True but a 10 foot dish is required.

Will a 10ft mesh dish work or has it to be a solid dish for ku Band?

any expert know this?

A good quality mesh dish, of which the little mesh holes are smaller then 1/4" should be no problem for Ku-band reception, especially at 10 ft...

A good quality LNB will make a much bigger difference in reception!

Well Thankyou Monty for this info and I'll attempt to start with my 10ft mesh dish presently used for Multichoice and giving a perfect pic.

Regardsing the LNB how does one go about choosing between a high quality one as opposed tp one just supplied??

Are rhere brands or certain standards to look for or even price markers? This is for HD too!

Any

I will go over to Astro shortly and I note for cricket lovers that much seems to be avaalablr on PPV there!
