mamborobert
Ye, I'm up for that.... Tuskers seem to be on the ball, so to speak. Chaz, the owner is on about having sports quiz etc... in-between matches.Never watched a match in half moon, although heard bad reports about the staff there! top bloke that Chaz!! (hes really a rugby supporter) Rugby? isn't that that minority sport with a funny shaped ball? haha No, thats Aussie Rules....a very small world cup competition, only surpassed by the US Baseball "World Series" After Football, Rugby is probably my favourite international support, union of course (I was too good looking for league). heazille
Englands first match will be a 2am kick off here in Chiang Mai.My question is are the bars/pubs whatever allowed to be open by law? Iain My Wife's Restuarant will be showing all the matches via True HD on her new 50" tv screen. Not sure about giving the location what with "sponsors" etc but it is inside the city moat. Hopefully the e mail link is ok , then anyone can e mail for more information Joy Cheers Richard & Joy
heazille
hope they sort out this curfew thingy before the WC, or no one will be happy No Problem with curfew at all! Just be in before 11 and we only let you out after 4am Cheers Richard
Ned
For those who'll be angry if True HD coverage of the WC comes without English and who demand their deposit be returned : I heard that True don't refund deposits anymore. Instead they give you a "Pink Credit Memo" used to buy other True services instead. Has anyone else heard this?

AndersSN
Make sure you tell the staff though - I walked past last night and mentioned the half price drinks if I wear my shirt and they didn't seem to understand or know probably only applies to WC games btw you football fans consider yourselves lucky you get to see football, us rugby fans are left in the dark with no signals from DSTV. Well there was no signal for the S14 semi finals last night yeeees I know that... I just asked when the WC starts and I wear my shirt (which I now have - horray!) are they offering half-price drinks and they all looked at me as if I were pee baa (which I may be but that's a different story). Be nice if we all met at ONE bar and had a crowd of us? Yup my bad, haven't told the bartender about the half priced drinks yet. Didn't think anyone was going to ask about it before the actual WC. But I'll be in the bar to make sure myself when the WC starts, I'm going to watch all the games anyway. But it is on, and we will be open for the 1.30 kick off games as well, have done that before without any problems from the bib.

Chicog
It would seem Phuket has doubts about the English feed as well: Phuket bars to open late for soccer World Cup (Courtesy: Phuket Gazette):PHUKET: Soccer fans will be pleased to hear that bars in Phuket will be allowed to stay open late to show South Africa 2010 World Cup matches, although alcohol sales regulations will still apply. "Bars can show the soccer matches late, but they still have to follow the law limiting the hours when alcohol can be sold," said Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pekad Tantipong. Bars can serve alcohol until midnight unless they have permission to do so until 1am from both the local District Office and the Interior Ministry's Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA). Certain venues inside entertainment zones that applied for permission before 2004 are still allowed to sell alcohol until 2am, a DOPA officer told the Gazette. The first 2010 World Cup match will kick off on Friday, June 11 at 9pm local time, when hosts South Africa face Mexico. Kick-off times will range from 6:30pm to 1:30am local time, meaning bars will need to stay open until around 3:30am to show the later matches. The tournament will be broadcast on True Visions and Thai TV channels 3, 7, 9 and 11. Those seeking English-language coverage of the matches on local cable might be disappointed, as customer service representatives at two local cable TV providers said they would only be carrying Thai-language feeds from free-to-air channels. twofortheroad
Has anybody here ever been to watch a game live? If you haven't, expect to be dissapointed, because there's no commentary or action replay. You have to figure it all out by yourself. So long as I can hear the whistle and the roar of the crowd I'm alright. I don't need anyone to tell me what I have just seen - I know it was a goal. Espescially the S.American commentators, who are employed purely on the basis of how long they can hold the word "Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooal", without taking a breath. 20 seconds plus? The jobs yours. Edited May 25, 2010 by twofortheroad

Does 2 world cups and 3 euro championships watching England, 19 years home games and 7 years home and away watching Rotherham in the lower leagues class me as "been to watch a game live"? Also the last game I saw live not in Thailand was Real Madrid Vs Valencia in Madrid. But I would still like commentry if im watching it on a the tele. I think we are out of luck this year by all accounts, but lets not be biased against those who like the game but don't watch it in the stadiums around the world. The International games count, but I'm not sure about Rotherham. Very impressive all the same. I don't particularly notice the commentary, unless they're being overly annoying. But some people here give the impression that it's a major issue. If the commentary is available and you enjoy it , that's great, but with or without the commentary it should still be a great spectacle. I find the Thai commentators entertaining rather than annoying. I used to watch football on Saudi TV. Their commentary skills were basically repeating the names of the players as quickly as possible after the English commentator had just spoken them and as already mentioned, stringing the word gooooooooal out for as long as possible. They were so bad they were good.

Here is the first part again, for those who might still be confused. Dear Khun (Me) Please allow us to inform you that The World cup matches have been secured the sole right by TV Pool (Thai TV) here in Thailand not TrueVisions. You will be able to watch it on Thai Free TV. However, we also regret to inform you that TV Pool has bought only a picture license and not included the original commentary. This means, the commentators will be Thai (only). TrueVisions has bought a license from TV Pool; there will be only Thai commentators as well. So, you can certainly watch it in HD but NO English commentary. Just find the best bar, with the best TV, the best people and have fun!
bangkok blue
Does beg the questions as to why (as included in an earlier post and pm'd to other members on this forum) I have an e-mail from a True representative, highlighting can change commentary to English! I suggest anyone who has purchased this withholds the next 2mths subscription and search around like hel_l for an alternative in time for the new footy season! Whether some how we can organise an Astro feed up here or somehow pick up the signal from ESPN in China/Bhurma/Cambodia/India! This will be the final straw for me if I've been lied to by TURD visions!

StevieH
far as i know most countries around the world are required by fifa to show the world cup on terrestrially-available tv, i.e. a channel that nobody is excluded from watching. the language factor isn't part of that remit, that's the choice of individual commercial channels as to whether it's worth their financial while stumping up for the english commentary package. in the case of how much ROI from ad and subscription revenues true would see this world cup, perhaps it just isn't worth it.
