Thai Troops Violate Law In Bangkok Action: Amnesty

webfact

Abhisit is delusional, and on very thin ice. In his unabating preaching about restoring the rule of law, he has forgotten all about the rules of international law. You don't indiscriminately fire live ammo at unarmed civilians, and you don't declare city streets that are still inhabited by ciivilians as free fire zones.

Unless Abhisit realises the error of his ways, and sits down to talk serious compromise, he could end up joining the ranks of war criminals lined up for trial at the Hague.

Exactly Clockwork - "live fire zones" in residential areas against a vast majority (99%) of unarmed protestors is a no no in international law. The Thai military have already been warned about using this term but they continued. Abhisit will be going to the Hague along with his deputy and commander. I know many human rights lawyers already making preparations.

So you want the army to go in with riot shields and batons against these 99%, and ignore the soldiers getting shot by the 1%?

If the 99% don't support the 1%, then they should get out and let the army sort out the problem. If they stay, then they obviously support the violent 1% and are just there as human shields to stop the army coming in.

In reality, there are 3-4000 (if that many) peaceful protestors at Ratchaprasong, and another thousand or so attacking the army with grenades, guns, petrol bombs and more.

Amnesty are safe, sitting in comfy offices, watching sensationalist reports from CNN & BBC while drunken Red Shirt mobs are terrorizing residential areas in Bangkok.

When Amnesty have some people on the ground here in Bangkok and witness at first hand what is going on then they might have some credibility.

just shown tanks and a heavy army presence being moved in over night(silom area), on one of the thai t.v. news programmes :)

But surely tanks are just bluster unless the army intends to blow central Bangkok to smithereens?

well from the looks of it, they dont look like they are there to party.

load speaker annoucements telling people to clear the area. so im told through someone translating for me.

The army is using heavy vehicles to shield troops in preparation for forcing their way into the park.

Oh, these rioters are well armed! Easy to say that when your feet are standing in London.

The live fire zone has warning posted everywhere. as with other public warning signs, if you proceed then.........!!!

The army can put signs up and the govt can declare live fire zones anywhere to make life difficult for Bangkok residents, they have every right to shoot people going about their everyday business, Even where there was no problem. There is 2 ways to do things. And for the life of me I cannot understand that the leaders of the govt made the first mistake, now both sides are screwing it right up.

There is only one way out of this mess and that is international intervention, Stopping companies and innocent peoples financial transactions because they do not agree with you. How low can you go. Not allowing news media to report facts. Is this called suppression, for sure. Attacking innocent people and initially causing 26 deaths. The redshirt leaders are to join the judicial process, hey aussiebob how are the kangaroos down there. I don't agree with what the redshirts are doing either burning tires, blocking roads, ransacking, firing bullets etc. and I dont agree with what the yellow shirts did taking over and ransacking govt house, blocking airports, making it difficult for kids to go to school, blocking roads etc And the so called invisible hand. bombing phone boxes and killing 5 people when the reds were in power and now bombing indiscrimantly and trying to blame the reds, and assasinating opposition members as well as The General with the bal_ls to stand like a man, not run or hide like a few cowards are doing. The money is too important for the people at the top, lives are not. I just hope this can be resolved without further loss of life.

Sadly I have lost respect for Amnesty International, they are misinformed and out of touch with the reality here on the ground in Bangkok. Shame on them for getting it so wrong!

Couldn't agree more ! They are an absolute joke concerning this.

It may be important to remember 1989, when Romanias leader Ceauşescu was executed after using the security forces and regular army to kill civilians. It's a great tragedy for Thailand that this battle between the rich and the poor is escalating so perilously, but a sure sign of conviction that the red shirts stand ready to die in the face of such overwhelming force. Custer's last stand. Remember the Alamo?. This time will not be forgotten, and is clearly drawing everyone into their own personal ideological camp of right vs left. Perhaps this ideological battle actually extends far beyond these borders. Personally, a Louis Vuitton type and side with compassion and restraint at all times. Thai rak Thai.

By putting up sign that say " Live Fire Zone " it means the government are using Psychological warfare tactics to frighten protesters from getting near the soldiers bunker.

LOL! Yeah, all psychological warfare tactics. The guns I see on the news are just for show, right? The issue here isn't the SIGNS being posted by the army; it's the REAL live fire being used to kill. And 70 people are dead already - not because they read a frightening sign.

Amnesty International aren't upset because there are signs saying "Live Fire Zone". They are upset because the area IS a Live Fire Zone. Are you okay Thaising?

Bye bye Abhisit.

It is very simple. Hands on your head and leave the protest zone. How difficult is that to understand? Its common sense, you don't even need any form of education for that.

If you want to cease fire, show some initiative yourself, instead of making countless demands.

You've had so many opportunities to plead your case.

Bravo to the Thai government for FINALLY ending this illegal occupation of Bangkok.

The illegal red protesters and the armed terrorists hiding amongst them have been given EVERY opportunity to leave.

Those who have chosen to stay will have to face the music. I remain amazed that there are some people who think convicted criminal Taksin is worth dying for...

Looking forward to a return of law and order to the streets of Bangkok.

Leaders? What leaders? Last I heard the "leaders" of this insurrection fled like cowards and left their brainwashed sheep to fight the battle for them...

"Jatuporn and Arisman Have Fled after Soldiers Reclaim Ratchaprasong

ASTV and several other media are reporting that key red-shirt core leaders including Jatuporn Promphan, Arisman Pongruengrong and Suporn Attawong have fled the Ratchaprasong protest site after soldiers were able to reclaim the Sarasin intersection. "

Somehow, the oft-repeated, oft-written phrase goes through my mind: "And the driver fled the scene..." First reaction when things get "hot"....

Arisman has found another way. He has escaped! He has run away from Rachaprasong to leave the rest to face the soldiers. This is one of the Reds' main leaders.

Yes that seems to be the current info.

It will be amusing to see the Red dupes here on TV explain this ignoble act of cowardice to their own supporters :)

I want an I LOVE ThaiVisa t-shirt ... this forum has done wonders to deal with boredom the last month as well as an easy source of news to stay informed.

I'm thinking you've surely set some form of record, 'over 1000 posts in a month' :D:):D

Check the news from the rest of the country. Blockages in Chiang Mai, Ubon, Khon Kaen. If you cannot control the country please step down from government

LMAO

Reds create such violence and chaos to force the gov't to respond strongly and then say gov't must step down for their actions to maintain the law.

LOL, this 3rd grade approach has become very transparent to anyone with any common sense.

I would have thought so too but I'm only averaging around 30 a day and see there are a number of folks up to 40 a day.

I cannot post a link to a thai cable tv station. PLease dont insult people of a different view to your own. I am no apologist, I just see a country in transititon. If you want to debate facts, not those facts from thai tv, I will be online for a while. If anything you are trying to apologise for highly armed troops shooting people. Maybe another ex military man
