I need to make a much postponed trip of a few days to Bangkok and was wondering

a) if Siam Paragon will be open next week - I need to go to a particular shop there

:) are there exceptional hotel deals available next week for my budget of under 2000 bht a night?

U have to be joking . They haven't even cleared the ashes. What hotels are open will probably raise their price to make up 4 their loss.

I don't know why people always say they'll raise their prices. Hotels seem to have among the most demand sensitive pricing, although I've gotten deals on other things as well.

One place I like for both the location and the rooms is the Grand President. The last couple trips they've been 1,999 to 2,199 baht (including taxes) for their lowest priced room. Just checked and they have 1,799 for next week. Although through Agoda, they're showing $47 (without taxes) versus the $55 to $65 that usually comes up. That's a pretty good discount. One other hotel that's low is the Grand Mercure Fortune, which normally shows up for a ridiculous $90 or so. It is also showing $47. Other hotels seem about the same as before or just slightly lower, so it takes some looking around.

Some of the smaller hotels might take an email or phone call to get a deal. Any hotels who rely on large tour groups would probably be the most willing to discount. Those tend to be taxi ride away from things rather than walking distance.

They are down, the Landmark was $65 last time i looked, I'm waiting to get something from the Millennium asoke, but they brushed my inquiry off, best hotel and location IMHO, probably get the best rate as a walk-in

Wow. The first hotel I ever stayed at in Bangkok was the Landmark. I thought I did well getting the room for around $90/night, and that was when it was about 40 baht per dollar.
