I'm back to the internet cafe again.I downloaded some updates from the Microsoft website, which seem to install ok.

Now when i try to start the PC it gets to the black screne where it says windowsXP is loading, quick flash of blue, then it restarts again over and over again.

I can get into safe mode, but what ever I do the same thing happens,it willl not load on safe mode.

Any suggestions please,or is it back to Tukcom for a reinstall

Thanks for the reply george,I was just surf for a solution.

I was following the advice of this thread today

http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=36845

So i guess i downloaded the wrong update.I saw on the net that in safe mode there should be an option "disable auto restart on system failure",but I can't remember seeing it when I pressed F8.

control panel/system/advanced/startup and recovery options for boot and failures ...

set it not to restart in case of ...

ps; in safe mode you can uninstall win updates too, just check the "show updates" box at the top of the progs window .. :o

Francois, thank you for the reply, but I can't get to control panel, its stuck at the first window screne, the black one, after that it reboots again. If I could get in as you say, delete the updates or system restore.

I'll keep trying.

bartender100 - Check this Microsoft link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;885523

You may be able to get to the turn-off option francois suggested, by following MS's instructions in above article, which reads as follows:

"Your computer may restart immediately if it is configured to automatically restart when a system failure occurs. To turn off this option so that your computer does not restart, press F8 at startup, use the arrow keys to select the Disable automatic restart on system failure option, and then press ENTER."

good luck :o

That option does not show for me when I press F8,anyway I take it down to Tukcom now,I'll update on what happens.

I was waiting to see if anyone has had the same problem on here, seaching around on google it seems a common problem, but no real answer other than reinstall.

Thanks

Start in Safe Mode F8

From START menu

All Programs

Accessories

System Tools

System Restore

Then restore to a point that you know that you had no problems.

Thanks, but I'm fixed up now.I took it to Tukcom,2 shops said it need reinstall and thats what I did.

What you suggested would not work,in safe mode what ever I tried it would not get me to Windows so I could not get to the Start menu,if I had it would have been easy.

hi'

as M$ says, boot from win cd and press r, from this you'll have to enter some command lines to repair and get rid off this wrong update.

check it at M$ site :o long page(s) about the update KB890859 ...

then, don't forget to change seettings for your automatic Update, set it as download them but ask before to install, so you can choose which one is appropriate for your system :D
