I have been speaking with an acquaintance who spent 10 days at the Vipassana Meditation center in Kantchanaburi.

Can anyone give me more details about it, if you've participated, or know someone that has.

I am asking because I know that it's a 10 day commitment.

How is it conducted?

What is learned, specifically?

Thanks in advance.

I had a terrible experience when I attended one of the 10 day courses at the Prachinburi (near Bangkok) centre recently (September 2010).

The course is essentially Videos and audio recordings of 'Goenka'. During the audio parts, everything is spoken in English and then the Thai equivalent is played; I found this very distracting.

When I attended the course there were about 170 people there, the majority Thai.

PM me if you want more information.

Ironically I left the course with an aversion to meditating!

Are you planning to do a retreat there or are you just trying to assess how effective their courses are?

The reason I ask is that members may be able to suggest alternatives.
