Popular Post robsamui
Thanks Jim. I was on the ferry coming from Donsak yesterday when the storm hit. The captain headed out to sea to ride it out - 90 minutes of rock n roll and zero visibility (scary!) This is daylight, about 4:30 just as the storm was coming, with my back to Samui, looking out to sea off the back of the boat . . . And this was 90 minutes later, as the storm was clearing (the black bit on the left is over Samui, with three of the Five Islands to the right). rhythmworx
Nice shot Ron, have you acquired a new lens?
Ron19
Thanks for that. No I haven't acquired a new lens in fact I am one lens short. The lens I used for this shot is a fixed Sony A DT50mm F 1.8 sam. Excellent for many situations but is lacking in some areas. This shot was taking while playing around with the macro setting on the camera and then cropping it down to what you see. I had a 18 - 55 lens that served me well in the past but the auto focus packed it in. I am looking to buy a 18 - 135 lens to replace that other one but haven't got the necessary to do so.The only other lens I have is Sony A mount 75 - 300 which is also good for what it is intended for but not for 3cm flowers ( which is the size of the flower in the image ) and miniture bees which is the next image down from the one you quoted. I have a long way to go to match Goompa's standard. Cheers, Ron

Popular Post Mousehound
Nice picture of a native blue-banded bee. I don't know the exact sp . I attach a pic of another member of the Hymenoptera - an Australian sp. These bees can be very small and are often overlooked. They tend to be solitary and live in small holes - often in fences or house walls. Edited July 17, 2016 by samuijimmy
Ron19
This one was very small. The flower itself was only3-4 cm across. Sent from my iris 755 using Tapatalk
Popular Post Mousehound
This one was very small. The flower itself was only3-4 cm across. Sent from my iris 755 using Tapatalk many Native Bees are only 2-10 mm. With the insect world if you start looking at sub 5mm you will indeed find there are many more animals than there are larger than 5mm. Once you look at super macro or micro it is like looking through a face mask for the first time when swimming in the sea. This bee is 7mm. It is on a tiny orchid. Most Native Bees seem to spend very little time wandering about - unlike Honey Bees. For the NB it is get in and out fast. Quite a challenge to get a shot of such a small animal that won't keep still.
