Just would like to know if it is appropriate to post some Non-Thai related (Australian) nature shots? If you are wandering why, it has been some years since I have lived in Thailand, but will be returning for a trip early next year and trying to learn as much as I can about photography as I can before I return. It was because of some of the outstanding photos on the Photography Thread that sparked my interest.

Thank you anqiud. At the moment I am babysitting a relative’s farm, below are some of my neighbours. There are other birds (Falcons, owls, etc.), but I can’t get close enough to get good photos. Further than 10m and I lose all detail, took me ages before I could get close enough to the kookaburras. Time to save for a new lens I think. If people like these I will post some more.

Your telephoto lens suffer a little bit in sharpness. Or maybe your shutter speed was not enough fast to avoid some micro move

Thanks angiud for your comments, much appreciated. The lens that I am using (Nikor 18-105mm / F3.5-5.6) is a kit lens, so I don’t expect too much from it, it is not very good past 70mm. As far as shutter speed, I have tried many different settings and slowly getting better. I even bought a tripod and remote trigger (didn’t make any difference).

I have bought a Nikor 35mm/F1.8 for street, which I am yet to try, and looking at a Nikor 300mm/f4 for nature, but I’ll wait until I understand the camera better.

One thing that has greatly enhanced my photos (surprisingly) is that I have tried different software. I was using Lightroom but last night tried Capture NX2, I will post some examples below

Anyway back on track, some more of the locals.

Below are some examples of different software used. The only things adjusted are Sharpness / Noise levels. Note: I have a Nikon Camera.

If you want to attach files from your computer.

1.Click the “Reply to this Topic” top right hand corner or the “More Reply Options” button at the bottom of the page.

2. Write you reply in the dialogue box.

3. To attach files, click the “Choose File" button. A box should appear with which to browse your computer and choose the photo file. Select your file and press open. The file should download and the file name should appear next to the “Choose file button”

4. Click “Attach this File”

Repeat steps 3 & 4 for additional photos.

A list of attached photos will appear, press “add to reply” for each photo.

You can preview your post in which you will see your post and photos as thumbnails. When happy with your post, press “Add Reply”.

Once posted; when thumbnails are clicked they will expand. Looking forward to some Photos. Regards Bill.

First outing with the new Olympus 60mm macro lens.

Thank you for the information, Bill. I will try that when I get things sorted out.

Took these with a Canon 4oD and my new Tamron 180 Macro. They are OK but as I had the camera on its max ISO setting of 1600 thay are a bit washed out and grainy.

The subject is an Assassin Bug sucking out the innards of a Ladybird. Hand held - taken just to check out the new lens had survived the post.

Can't seem to attach more than one pic at a time. So here is another _

Very nice, Bill. Are you currently in Australia? I don't recall seeing Kookaburas in Thailand, but they were one of my favourite birds in Australia. They are just like a huge Kingfisher we have in Canada.

Thanks for the compliment and yes I am in Australia. I am looking after a relative’s farm at the moment so plenty of wildlife nearby. I bought the camera recently and I am trying to learn how to use it correctly as I intend to travel to Thailand (late February) after many years absence. May even settle there if things haven’t changed too much. So hopefully I can get some Thai wildlife before too long (pictures that is).

The Kookaburra is the largest member of the Kingfisher family here is Australia. There is the Laughing Kookaburra (pictured) and the Blue Winged Kookaburra. There is a pair that has the house in their territory, so are often nearby.

Hi all.

Here are some more Black Cockatoos in flight. You may notice that they have yellow tail feathers, as apposed to the last post which had red (different birds).

The photos aren’t the clearest; the light was failing so the settings where not optimal and are cropped. Hopefully I will have a good telephoto lens before I get to Thailand.

My favourite photo is the fourth one: but if you view second last photo, then the last quickly you get a good effect.

I am never patient enough to get pictures of many insects etc, .... they usually fly off .... creating a blur, .... but these two were otherwise occupied!!

Yes, is a Dart (family Hesperiidae) but difficult to say which species without see the upper wings ;-)
