I am reviewing juice factories for a possible export project, and I thought the ThaiVisa forum would be the best place to gauge the taste (in regard to Thai brands) of westerners.

Any input or response? What's your taste say?

Thanks in advance for any input!

For me it's simple, the one that tastes the best is the one that is on sale.

Cheers!

Well if anyone likes another brand, let me know and I'll add it to the poll.

don't like any everywhere, quite contrary to the fresh pressed ones

Fresh pressed will always be best!

Really we need UHT treated juice (to be shelf-stable)... we're trying hard to achieve the best taste profile though, and keep the price down.

I voted Tipco most especially like my own blend of their Spinach/Wheatgrass and Aloe combination.. But as someone stated these days the taste is relative to the cost but Tipco is on sale a lot.. Second would be Chabaa and only like the 100% juice fresh squeezed no concentrate or juice drink..

I used to drink Tipco but the past year or so the flavour has become terrible. So bad that I don't drink it anymore and bought myself a juicer combined with sometimes buying the bottled (but often they add sugar).

Most of the other brands I've tried I don't particularly like.

Anyone else noticed the deterioration of Tipco?

After consulting with some of the production teams, I learned that even '100% juice' is from-concentrate about 100% of the time. It's just the process they choose which denotes whether they must include this on the packaging.

I've heard someone else mention this... Hmm, so Tipco is getting worse then is it?

Let us know if you try any other brands and find any improvement!

Thanks.

Peyton I get the impression you are not an expert.

I would do a little research of the product before the actual market research.rolleyes.gif

I have to agree fresh pressed is always best and cheap and readily available in Thailand. I like the orange juice from the stalls in the BTS stations as well its pretty good. No idea of the brand though.

Maybe you should consider the Thai taste as that's where you'll sell more juice I would imagine here.

First off you do know that fresh squeezed is subject to seasonal fruits and subsequent ripeness eh? Secondly they do not add sugar to their fresh 100% real juice as that makes it less then 100% real juice and thus a misrepresentation of the term "100% real juice" they package to international standards so that's a no no... You're probably not paying attention and buying the reconstituted juice they also offer instead..

*Edit* I just noticed that you were referring to the bottled juices you buy instead adding sugar not Tipco 100%..

I don't like any of the packaged juices in Thailand, all have a strange chemical-type tinge to the taste, or they taste like they were made from concentrate with too much water.

I wish they had something that taste like Tropicana orange juice (the one that comes in containers).

How would Tropicana do then? It's here and definitely available at Villa Markets as well as some others.. But I don't taste the tinge you're referring to, check the label maybe your not buying 100% juice it's easy to mistake..I love the veggie fruit mixes they have here..

I have found most of the fruit juices on sale in Thailand contain too much sugar which defeats the purpose of trying to drink something healthy and refreshing. The one i do like is the "fresh" "no brand" ones for sale at the BTS stations especially the Beetroot and passionfruit .The passionfruit adds enough sweetness by itself. I have no doubt these are manufactured in some large factory and presented as freshly made. The ones in Big C are not too bad either. They will not last too long tho so there must be little or no preservative.

I hope this helps!!!

Hey Guys, I am not an expert on juice, but I have the investment and the carton design and everything underway.

The product will be for sale in Australia and New Zealand next year. We are utilizing one of the factories listed above, and I wanted to know how you guys felt about their competitors taste profile, thus the poll.

Point being, even NFC juice has been processed and you are very very unlikely to find anything '100% natural', even if it is stated as so on the bottle. Shelf life is just too short, and there are many loopholes for the legality of making claims such as 100% juice, or NFC.

Juice is not that healthy i mean its better to eat fruit then to drink juice, it just has loads of calories. But i like drinking it at times too.

This will come as no surprise to you Rob, but I don't agree with you. Fruits on the street are hit and miss - who knows where that ice has been? And don't forget the big scandal last year I think it was about those so-called freshly squeezed juices that came from oranges up north that were covered in pesticides etc.

If you are concerned about the calories, i suggest you only have half a glass at a time.

Spot on James... half glass juice (either orange or tomato) / half glass vodka cool.gif

Who said anything about buying it at the streets ? I certainly did not i prefer to make it myself and if you make sure you clean your fruits good there is no problem. I was just debunking a common myth about how healthy fruit juices are. And i do drink them from packs too but i don't kid myself with its healthy image.

Tipco have some good combinations but overall you cant beat the Doi Kham Strawberry Juice. Someone told me it was good, I thought it'd be oversweet and gloopy but it wasn't. It truly is the nectar of the gods i.e. rather good.

Does it work with Vodka ? :)

The Tipco Squeeze (only on the fridge counter of Tesco, Big C, Makro, etc) are the best (for Thailand) for taste and freshness.

I love mango, apple, strawberry.

As said above, I find the packaged juices (and also a lot of the fizzys) too sweet, especially the tangerine ones.

Freshly blended all the way please :)

I voted Tipco, but notice a big increase in sweetness........ more sugar?

I can do without any sugar, just plain juice for me. No sugar!

My favourite juice is Pomelo but cannot recall the brand. Chabaa?

edit: Try Gin or Vodka with Tipco's Aloe Vera.... :)

I agree completely about Doi Kham brand strawberry... It's delicious and has a pretty fresh clean taste, despite being a processed, store shelf juice.

I had been drinking Tipco's Cranberry juice, which unfortunately, is only a little cranberry and a bunch of grape and apple, if I recall correctly, added in.

The strawberry is labeled as 100%, and certainly looks and tastes it. Comes in 750 ml cartons, smaller than Tipco's standard 1L cartons, but also is priced accordingly, usually 50-55 baht per container, and usually available at Big C's, Emporium and Paragon supermarkets.

Doi Kham has a couple other flavors, but I've never tried any others than strawberry.

I just bought another case of Tipco Medley OJ. All natural juice, no flavor added, not from concentrate, no preservatives. It's a blend of several different oranges. Great as a mixer!
