If They Asked For Recomendations

Recommended Posts

Hypothetically,........and it may one day happen............but hypothetically if the Pattaya Council / authority gave you the contract for 12 months to fix Pattaya ,what would you recommend?

So to put it more clearly ,hypothetically your Company is hired by Pattaya City to make reccomendations to better the City.

Obviously it depends on their requirements,do they want more tourists, more green space etc,but I think Pattaya City Council may hire a foreign Company /Consultants one day to make reccomendations.

Whether you are just a retired expat or a business person we all have some ideas of how things could be improved.

I was talking to a friend about this recently who said "leave things as they are" in Pattaya but is it wrong to better and improve things ?

Here are my recomendations if they hired my consultancy advice.

* Have more Farang Tourist Police visible with good customer service skills and knowledge.

If need be,employ Part time Farang Tourist Police on a permanent basis rather than volunteers.

*Have Zebra/pedestrian crossings manned by lollipop persons ,especially the one outside tukcom

*Rid the area of dogs and regualr stray dog patrols

*fix all foothpaths and make them family friendly, prams etc

*Reccomend a Govt 24 hr Ambulance response service and have Ambulance stations

Its about time there were Ambulance Stations manned 24 hrs in some areas ready to respond to emergencies instead of privately owned ambulances to see injured persons riding in the back of utes etc,is absolutely ludicrous.

Pattaya is a tourist and expat City, its about time more money was given to Ambulance Services and if need be a experienced Farang was hired to oversee the operations.

*Build a casino

This will bring in the tourists and the dollars

*Introduction of More No Parkinstopping signsg, -Introduction of Parking Officers, not sure if they have them in Bangkok, but Pattaya needs Parking Patrol officers to monitor and enforce parking.

*Pattaya car number plates and registration-

Vehicle numberplates should be i english numerals and vehicles registreted to a house address and easily traceable to owners.

These are just some from a safety point of view.

However you need to take an impartial view and make recommendations on that.

why would you need more farang tourist police ?? police of any country should be made up of only nationals.

These farang volunteers mostly have zero police experience from their home countries so I think their titles are completely misleading...

nothing for me its perfect, i just spent 8 years living in Samui after that dump here is heavan, cheap booze, good roads, plenty of entertainment, good shopping, plenty of places to go, police who seem reasonably proactive (compard to Samui) and well best of all the eye candy everywhere. and no rip of bangkok airways to deal with, or crappy ferries

Instead of turning the place into a concrete jungle with all the developments built, keep some areas green and turn them into public parks.

Improve the road surfaces.

Improve the emergency services, esp; ambulance & police.

Hear Hear !

Parks and some green space would benefit all.

As for Baht Buses ,im sure most Baht drivers would agree with you about halving their colleagues ,however like most Countries ,the Taxi Industry seems to have the strongest voice and is always allowed to release new plates.

But if I was making a reccomendation I would not reccomend they half Baht Buses, this would only leave them to "rip off" more tourists as such.

I did know a thai guy who was working only on Friday Nights driving a baht bus,he "leased/rented" the baht bus from the owner for a 12 hour period, plus had to leave a full tank when he took it back to the owners house around 5am saturday morning.

Not sure how much rent he paid but he was telling me he made about 2000 b profit after expenses, but he tried to pick up group\s instead of the route 10 baht trips.

I would say increase baht buses rather than half them, especially on weekends.

Most of the drivers on weekend shifts are only part timedrivers anyway and work another job during the week,so its only a bit extra pocket money for them.

As for the pattataya taxi cabs..........well there are another topic.

Make the Yellow and Blue taxis take the "Taxi Meter" sign off their roofs and replace them with "Taxi" (only) signs.

Or if City Council really have bottle (courage), make them USE the Taxi Meter that is already fitted

You rarely see those taxis actually running on the road, and if you do, the "For Hire" sign is still illuminated and there are passengers inside.

If it is still illuminated ,it means the meter is not on.

So he/she is driving passengers around without switching the meter on.

Wow, so many nasty replies, one of which is certainly breaching forum rules for personal insults.

If people don't like a subject, why do they bother replying? So easy, click onto some other post.

For those of us that do like to daydream:

IMPROVE THE WALKWAY

build a soundshell for concerts on the beach

halve the baht buses

put some traffic light controlled pedestrian crossings on the most congested roads

make second road two way

close Beach Rd from Central to South Rds after 6pm, and allow outdoor cafes to set up

build a tramway from Sri Racha, through Naklua to the end of Jomptien

move the bus station down next to Second Rd

build a cable car to Buddha Hill

move the TAT back into town where it'd be of some use

As said, I'm daydreaming

Accept that Pattaya makes its money from the naughty industry - the bulk of its income comes directly or indirectly from it anyway.

Allow the bars to open as long as the customers and owners want - providing they aren't in a residential area.

Stop punishing the bars for showing - providing it's inside, out of sight of anyone who doesn't go in.

Stop noise pollution - tannoy trucks, outdoor Karaoke's, etc. after midnight.

Control the Baht buses, penalising them hard for overcharging.

Stop ALL parking on Beach Road.

Enforce clear pavements at all times (sidewalks to the Yanks).

Stop dual pricing.

Allow loungers on beaches.

Make Soi's 7 & 8 Walking Streets after 19:00.

FORCE THE POLICE TO BE HONEST - pay them properly then come down heavily on graft.

The bus station used to be on Second Road, where it is now is an improvement as Second Road is congested enough without all the buses adding to it.

Second Road also used to be 2 way and it is a big improvement now, again because of congestion.

Get rid of the Baht Buses altogether and just have a proper taxi service that uses the meters and intorduce a proper bus service.

Don't allow the big tour buses into town, Beach Road and Soi 12 are too small for them.

I'm for keeping the Baht buses. Even in Bangkok they are used and Pattaya just doesn't have the geography to justify a bus service. It was tried and failed.

But please post fares on Baht buses clearly. Second road should stay as it is I agree. As for the bus station, well only newbies use it anyways(or people with very early or very late departures) The smart way is to take one of the many minivans that can be found near walking street.

A few months ago I was sitting outside tukcom in the coffee shop there, forget the name now but anyway im sitting there drinking coffee watching the pedestrian/zebra crossing and all of a sudden i hear a screech on the crossing and see a large farang guy complete with tattoos thump the bonnet of the ute who had about 4 thais in there and shouted 'stop ya bas...rds !,.he was pulled back by his thai gf,i recognised his accent as Aussie.

The car drove off and he was shouting etc and looked very stressed.

I like to sit at that one chair table and watch that crossing as you even see Thais trying to cross, but unfortanetely there is no policing, this is where we need tourist Police to monitor this crossing just outside tukcom and not be afraid to issue fines.

As for Police Corruption,I think do what Sydney Australia did back in the late 90 s and bring in a foreign Police Commissioner,he was from the U.K but only lasted a few years.

The Bus Service failed because it was not properly set up. Not enough and it was a one way Service around town going along Beach Rd. Jomtien along 2. Rd in Pattaya then, if I am not wrong, along Naklua Rd up to Sukumvhit back to Jomtien. No way it could work. There are too many Baht Busses, many drive around empty or with one or two Passenger, honking the Horn at everybody and waiting everywhere, blocking the Road. Less of them on the Road would make each Driver more Money, even if they would take turns and just drive every second Day (double the amount of Passenger but less Cost for Gasoline/Diesel). You would think working one day, sleeping the other would greatly benefit the Isaan Mentality, but that may be beyond of there Brain capability.

More Bars, more pretty girls, cheaper beer... :)

Seriously, I have not too much to complain about. I don't want too much fancy and overpriced stuff in Pattaya. Water supply could be better. Some Soi's 6, 7, 8 should be walking zones.

One poster suggested "make second road two way"...well that would be a total fiasco. Big Tour Buses are a major problem, so they should be replaced by smaller ones (as the big ones anyway are rarely full).

It failed because it was not allowed to succeed.
