Hi Folks,

Has anybody had dealings with the Thai Embassy in Kuala Lumpur? Specifically, how long does it take to issue a non-immigrant B visa so I can renew my work permit in Bkk. Also if you have information on opening hours. I have emailed the embassy in KL and an embassy email address in Thailand, but have not received a reply. I will have to take time off at my work at the Ministry of Public Health to travel to Kuala Lumpur and my boss needs to know how much time off I require.

Thanks in advance,

I received a 90 day Visa from there in March. Make sure you have all the necessary documents plus originals.

Fly there the day before, check into a cheap Hotel around Baht 1,000 per night.

Go to the Thai Consulate for about 10.00 am the next day.

Collect Visa the following day at 2.30 pm.

Fly back to BKK early evening.

From KL International to the City and return travel by the non stop train.

Regret I cannot help on the actual documents required because mine was a Visa to stay with my Thai wife.

Thanks for your helpful advice, Ijerms,

When I get a non-immigrant B visa in Perth, W Australia, all I need are:

-- Official letter offering employment (with dates of employment)

-- Passport photos

-- Required fee

-- Passport

Does anybody know if KL will require more?

Thanks in advance,

Yes they will require a lot more. Below is MFA general requirements (web site is down) but in general full company paperwork and contract type information will be required. In your home country they issued as a business traveler - in local areas your application is for employment.

Lopburi,

Thanks for your helpful advice.

You seem to be suggesting it would be much easier for me to return to my home country, Australia, and get the non-immigrant B visa there... as I did last year? I was hoping to save time (it takes 2 days to get Non-Imm B in Perth) and money by going to KL. If there is a lot of complication and a risk KL they will not issue the visa, it may pay me to take a cheap flight to Perth. What do you, or other ThaiVisa members, think?

Thanks in advance,

If you have the required paperwork KL should be fine - but a letter is not the required paperwork. KL should be able to provide there specific requirements but below is the MFA general list.

(2) Foreigners who wish to conduct business in Thailand must provide the following documents:

- Passport or travel document with a validity of not less than 6 months.

- Completed application form.

- Recent passport-sized photograph (4 x 6 cm) photograph of the applicant taken within the past 6 months.

- Evidence of adequate finance (20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family) for the duration of stay in Thailand

- Letter from the applicant’s company indicating the applicant’s position, length of employment, salary and purpose of visit(s) to Thailand.

- Documents showing correspondence with business partners in Thailand.

- Evidence of financial status in the case where the applicant is self-employed.

- Letter of invitation from trading or associated partners/companies in Thailand.

- Corporate documents of associated partners/companies in Thailand such as:

1) business registration and business license

2) list of shareholders

3) company profile

4) details of business operation

5) map indicating location of the company

6) balance sheet, statement of Income Tax and Business Tax (Por

Ngor Dor 50 and Por Ngor Dor 30) of the latest year

7) value-added tax registration (Por Por 20)

(3) Copies of company documents must be signed by the Board of Directors or authorised managing director and affix seal of company.

(4) Additional documents may be requested as and when necessary. In the absence of a required document, applicant must provide a letter explaining the unavailability of such document. Applicant must endorse on each and every page of the submitted copies of documentation. Documents in foreign languages must be translated into Thai and should be notorised by notary organs or by the applicant’s diplomatic or consular mission.

(5) Holder of this type of visa is entitled to stay in Thailand for a maximum period of 90 days. He or she may apply for an extension of stay at the Office of the Immigration Bureau and may be granted such extension for a period of one year from the date of first entry into Thailand.

Lopburi3,

Thank you for your very detailed and helpful reply. I think my original work permit that was issued last year went very smoothly with minimum paperwork because of my employer. I work the the Ministry of Public Health, so much of the documentation about the "company" was probably not needed. I have just read that it may be possible to renew my stay in Thailand and renew my work permit from within Thailand. I have never heard of this, so may ask my boss to contact the department that issues work permits to check.

Thanks again,

Yes that would be a one year extension of stay and should be what you are looking at rather than a new visa. Cost is only 1,900 baht but Ministry will have to provide some paperwork. Not everybody can use extension of stay as there are both company requirements and specific income levels (by nationality) required by Immigration.

Many thanks again, Lopburi3.

I will ask my boss to ring either the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Labour Department today to see what is involved in getting an "extension of stay".

Many thanks again, Lopburi3, your knowledge on dealing with Thai visa and work permit applications has been very helpful to me.

It will be paperwork from Public Health that you supply to Immigration. Labor is only involved in issue of work permit. Ministry of Foreign Affairs would only be involved if there was paperwork needing translation/registration which for Immigration should not be required as they accept both Thai and English or if you were asking for a visa from a Consulate - they are not involved with extensions of stay.

You need to be asking Immigration what is needed for the Extension of Stay.

Fly there the day before, check into a cheap Hotel around Baht 1,000 per night.

Go to the Thai Consulate for about 10.00 am the next day.

Easiest and cheapest way to get there for me is to take the Monorail (mini-skytrain, and connected to the other main skytrain lines) to Bukit Nanas station, and then walk around 200m to the bus stop right in front of the Renaissance Hotel.

Get on bus number 28 or 79 (not "U28" which is different). Bus ride costs 1 to 1.50 MYR (10-15 baht).

you'll pass a few embassies and then when you see the Nationwide Express building on the left side, then you are VERY close the the Thai embassy already.

Going back, take the same bus #s to Bukit Nanas Monorail again.

Hope this helps. :)
