Golf Club Shops

I have recently taken up the sport of golf.

Up until now I have been using my mates clubs, but I do want to own my own set.

Can anyone recommend a place to buy a good set? I do not want to pay too much as yet until I can get myself up to grade.

Also, what about manufacturers? what is a good brand?

Apparently knock off sets aren't too bad and quite cheap. Any thoughts guys?

I used Calloway copies for my first 3 years here... full set including titanium driver, 3W, 5W, 7W, full set of irons, putter, bag, hat, balls... cost me THB 20,000.

I recently updraded to the real thing... Taylor Made RAC's, R7 Quad driver, V-Steel fairway woods... cost me THB 90,000.

There is a difference... but if you're just getting up to speed, I'd go with a knock-off set... they were fine for me. :D

Having said that, in the sports store upstairs in Big C on second road, there are usually some bargains on brand-name sets for under THB 50,000.

Other golfers may offer you different advice, but if I were you, I'd visit a couple of pro shops and try out a couple of different brands... Calloway, Taylor Made, Ping etc to get the feel of what clubs suit you best... then find a copy.

PM me if you want to know more... :o

I second that. Also, as a beginner you don't really need a full set for some time. You will do fine with 3W, 7W, 4I, 6I, 8I, PW, SW and a putter. Later when you are becoming more proficient you can buy a new full set.

And yes, skip the driver in the beginning, newbies often hit longer with a 3W.
