livinthailandos
This question is for anyone out there currently using 3G or having access to it. I am curious to know what kind of download and upload speeds your getting on a 3G network. I do know 3G in bangkok or other areas in still limited or in trial use. I am also aware of the various factors regarding getting speed tests. I wanted to know because First I live in koh samui. Have dtac and of course stuck on 2G networks. I do not use my mobile for youtube access because speeds aren't fast enough to use it, so most of my internet is for reading news. Also keep in mind that since speeds are in 8 bits or something similiar to it, can't remember that this is my average real download speed. Mind you I did this on my HTC Desire using speedtest.net andriod app on my phone. From Speedtest results Server: Chatan, Okinawa Download: 206 kbps / actual download speed 25 kbps Upload: 89 kbps / actual upload speed 11 kbps Ping 999ms Server Singapore Download: 210 kbps / actual download speed 26 kbps Upload: 85 kbps / actual upload speed 10 kbps ping 635ms Server Hong Kong Download: 182 kbps / actual download speed 22 kbps Upload: 85 kbps / actual upload speed 9 kbps ping 417ms Last thing I"m very grateful I have my 3BB wifi at home. Cause these speeds are similiar to using dial up internet in a way.
MyNameMe
I just tested the 3G connection to a few places and got the following results: Bangok: D/L: between 1200kbps and 3194kbps U/L between 180 and 363kbps Ping: 200ms Singapore - D/L: 1508kbps U/L: 347kbps Ping: 235ms Hong Kong - D/L: 1024kbps U/L: 188kbps Ping: 310ms I'm in Bangkok and I turn off my wireless lan on the phone as the 3G is normally quicker even than my 3mbit True internet for streaming video and the like... kaspercat
Surprisingly the 3G from true is quite fast, I consistently get over 1200 Kbs up and over 300 Kbs down. But the coverage is not everywhere. From someone in Sukhumvit, the coverage is great. For unlimited @ 599 bt, it is a great deal.
nikster
FWIW I did a speed test when I was in Samui in April. True 3G was just fine. Cat Cdma Vs. True 3g - Thailand Forum
