Hi

I am looking for a clinic in Lamai where I could check the levels of vitamin (especially Vitamin D) and other minerals in my blood.

I could probably do this in Bangkok Hospital but dont want to go Chaweng and pay 5 to 10x the amount I could possibly do it here.

Could you please you recommend any clinics?

Not sure about vitamin levels, but from my personal experience Samui private hospitals can not even manage hormone testing. A lab in Nathon can handle at least anything hormone related, probably they can also check what you need. However, they send blood samples to Bangkok, so you have to wait for 2-3 days to get your results. Pricing is quite acceptable.

Thanks for the replies.

I dont really enjoy the traffic here that much and think its quite unsafe on the road so would rather do it on Lamai.

Any idea on their pricing and how long for results?

A lab in Nathon charged 300-500 THB for one position (hormones), this includes shipment to BKK and taking blood sample. Thai Inter opposite Tesco Chaweng and Bandon told me they didn't do this kind of blood work, Bangkok Samui offered to send blood sample to BKK and wanted about 2'000 THB for one position only, also they wanted me to consult their physician which is another 1'000 THB.

Cyprean, Samui is after all a holiday destination. Do not expect a high tech laboratory in every village.

I'd certainly agree the Lab guy at the Samui Hospital, knows what he's doing...

All test I had done there are very inexpensive & done within a matter of hours, not days as it takes in the "west"... Your test may need to go to BKK, non the less I think still would be a reasonable price.

He also runs a private evening clinic, after his shift at the hospital, starts at 4.30 if I remember. Turn at the lights in opposite direction as Hospital or Samui Immigration, about 200 to 300 metres on right... Sorry don't have his number handy...

Road from Lamai to Nanthon, is pretty quiet... not a hard trip.

Thanks for the replies.

Should I go his afterhour clinic or to his normal workplace(is it Samui Hospital)?

What time does the after hour clinic close?

If I do them tomorrow can I get the results back before the end of the week?

Ah! just found his number,

Name is Pai Boon, tel 086 951 7158

His English is not bad.

No idea of how long your test results will take.... anytime I have had tests, It's been about 3 hour, in - out with pills at the hospital. :)

As Smokie says the biggest source of vitamin D is sunlight. Unless you are hiding in a room with the curtains tightly shut 24/7 you should not need to get any more. If you are worried then simply get a bottle of multi vitamins from the pharmacy but again if you are eating a fairly balanced diet you will not need them either.

Vit D deficiency is common, for a variety of medical reasons, not just lack of exposure to the sun or through diet., although this is often the case. Age, some diseases, and some medications can interfere with its' production. :)

There's a bit more info on this here.

Vitamin D Deficiency: Symptoms, Causes, and Health Risks

Vitamin D test kits are available in the UK maybe they have them in the pharmacy on Samui but I doubt it to be honest.

Agreed, they are not likey to be available here. And besides, sadly, most of these kits are just for taking a blood sample which you then post to a lab for assay/analysis. So not really much use. :(
