imaneggspurt Posted June 30, 2010 Share Posted June 30, 2010 Had a box arrive from the uk in 3 days, 11 days later its still on customs hold, its a broken sony satio phone a friend has sent me to fix, delcared at 65 pounds, they have just asked me for 7500 baht taxes , paid into a private bank account,,as you can imagine i have told them to <deleted> off and enjoy their ( broken ) phone ,.this is not the first time its happened either,,be aware, imports can be VERY expensive,. Over the years we have imported many component assemblies that were stripped and imported into Canada in a couple of packages as 'spare parts', no customs duty Just a thought . People are declaring way over-the-top values on invoices and then complaining when they get large import duty, and blaming DHL or Fedex? There is a risk it won't turn up (not happened yet in 7 times) but they have never had any import charge. DHL and other couriers however always seem to be checked. First you go the trouble of buying a "broken" phone which you then pay DHL's high fee to deliver to you in Thailand even though you intend to send it back? This makes no sense at all. Your receipt means nothing. I can print you a new on my laser printer, complete with whatever letterhead you choose and show the thing only cost a pound and a half. It sounds very much like you tried to game Customs and lost. If I'm wrong, accept my apology. But I don't think I am. Full face motorcycle helmet delivered to the door from the UK with just regular postage. All the hassle seems to be with people using courier services. The ONLY cost-effective method for something like this is to hand-carry.
