So I was on the phone with a friend the other day. I have to make a trip out of los, but can't do it until the end of August. This causes me to be over by about a month for my visa stuff. I told him no worries, I'll just have to make a couple of 15 day border runs to get me up to the departure date (works out to be cheaper than a run to Laos for a real visa). He swore up and down that the land crossings are giving 30 day stamps now. Can anyone confirm this?

Not unless your nationality allows it under separate agreement - those with normal visa exempt status get 15 days by land and 30 days by air.
