george Posted June 29, 2005 Share Posted June 29, 2005 Cabinet nods for opening of Irish and Danish consulates in Phuket PHUKET: -- The cabinet has approved the opening of two new foreign consulates in Thailand's southern resort province of Phuket. The cabinet had approved the opening of the Honorary Consulate of Ireland and the Consulate of Denmark in Phuket, as proposed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Government Spokesman Pol. Gen. Chalermdej Jombunud announced after the cabinet's weekly meeting here on Tuesday. The jurisdiction of the two new consulates would not only cover Phuket, but also the two nearby provinces of Phang-nga and Krabi, he disclosed. Mrs.Henlene Fallon-Wood was appointed to be the Honorary Consul of Ireland in Phuket, while Mr. PeterTruelsen was appointed the Consul-General of Denmark in the province, said the government spokesman. --TNA 2005-06-29 Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

No tourist, most Danes living in Phuket are in hiding because of the social security problems with the Danish rules. I would say it' s a joke to open a consular office. george Posted July 4, 2005 Author Share Posted July 4, 2005 Irish, Danish get local representation PHUKET: -- Requests by the Republic of Ireland and Denmark to establish consular representation in Phuket have been approved by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Deputy Director-General of the Ministry’s Department of Information, Kiattikhun Chartprasert, told the Gazette on Friday that both countries had proposed setting up official consulates on the island in order to serve their nationals living and traveling in the region and to provide other consular services. The requests were approved during a Cabinet meeting on June 28, he said. Both diplomatic missions were set up on a temporary basis after the tsunami and have been operating informally since.
