I recently returned from a month away and was astonished to see the state of the newly built stretch of the Thappraya Rd from the Thepprasit junction travelling towards the Pratumnak junction.

There are 3 large areas that are gravel surfaces where they were nicely surfaced in tarmac only 2 months ago, what happened?

The road was built with a 24 hour guarantee. And a 5 year finishing deadline.

As long as it did not rain.

Sadly, it rained and the road got broken. We are lucky it didn't all slide down below Threppasit.

The weather is terrible sometimes.

It was raining, that has the same effect on roads here like Ice and Snow in the West. :whistling:

yes it was the wrong kind of rain----------------------the wet sort

And no doubt it fell vertically, which is the sort that causes all the problems.

Even if it's gravel, at least it's some sort of surface. The whole area from the Machanu statue past Ace Cafe once again looks like a crater in the Somme battlefield. There's no sign of then doing anything about it until the rainy season finishes, either, so the businesses here are stuck with a mudbath on their doorsteps again. Can't be very good for custom. Is this the second or the third rainy season that they've left it like that?

If you're driving on the uphill section of Thappraya Rd., travelling from Jomtien towards Pattaya, I would strongly recommend that you keep as far to the left as possible. There was a section of the downhill carriageway that collapsed several months ago and was subsequently filled in with loose gravel. Now the uphill carriageway, across the central reservation from the previous collapse, is sinking. If you look carefully you will see that an area of tarmac has sunk and begun to crack around the edges. If you drive over this section it's entirely possible that you are driving over nothing but tarmac suspended over a void.

If you think this sounds a bit alarmist, have a look at the photo of a sink hole that appeared in a road in China a few months ago. Hands up anyone who thinks this couldn't happen in Thailand.

I wish they won't fix it :whistling:

I always bring visitors for a drive on the entire 2klm or so stretch and see them marvel at the fact that it's taken at least 5 years to get this far, and it's not even finished yet! Forget other landmarks in Pattaya, for me the one accurate reflection of what this city is about is our wonderfully iconic Thrappaya Rd. whistling.gif

It will be ready in time to connect to the monorail which will connect to the high speed train. This will enable residents of Ocean 1 to speed from the airport to their apartments on the 90th floor.
