Thai Govt Ignores Red Shirts Rights: NHRC

I hope DSI authorities taped or video recorded Surachai's statements when he first started singing, a few days ago. Since then, Surachai has become a bit appraised of what 'legal rights' are, and has currently chosen not to sing (reveal details of his transgressions) any more. Still, that wouldn't necessarily negate what he told authorities earlier.

As for Central and other acts of destruction in Bkk immediately after the Red protest was nullified: I respect Tallforeigner as being on one of the scenes and telling what he witnessed. Such insights give these threads added depth. Seeing and deducing things have credence. However, it's not necessarily the actual explanation. It's better than pure speculation (particularly speculation driven by agenda), but you could get ten people who were at the scene, and you might get ten different descriptions of what happened.

If you gave me a can of gas and a lighter, I could bring down a large department store. Over half the shops at such malls sell items made from synthetic materials. Such materials ignite quickly and ferociously. I wouldn't be surprised if ceiling tiles and furniture fit the same volatile category.

Really like your signature comment,

"Free Burma, Free Tibet, Taiwan for the Taiwanese, allow the Mekong and Salween rivers to flow free, allow endangered animals to live in the wild. Insatiable China is on the prowl. "

And agree with you entirely but why not add " and the powers that be want power in perpetuity..." or something like that.

Why has nobody yet been formally charged with arson ???

Understanding quite something about fires I seriously doubt that you would be able to bring such a building down with a simple can of gas and a lighter. Don't forget that the sprinklers were running full power and that there are huge empty spaces in that building. From the pattern of how the fire spread from the inside and from the upper floors that were drawing the oxygen and the fire from the outside of the lower floors through the different floors up I am still 100% convinced that it was planned very carefully and professionally and most certainly initiated remotely.

DSI tells red-shirt detainee, think again

Terror suspect Surachai Thewarat will be given more time to reconsider cooperating with the Department of Special Investigation and giving details about armed violence by red-shirt protestors during the protests in May.

Director-General Tharit Phengdit said Surachai told him personally he would volunteer all information on Monday, but changed his mind after a visit by a man claiming to be a lawyer hired by the Pheu Thai Party, before DSI agents met him.

"Then he changed his mind," he said. "But he did not "bluntly refuse" to cooperate further and, as of now, is asking for more time before deciding whether to give out more details," he said.

The DSI would ask him to reconsider cooperating soon, despite the existing evidence being enough to prosecute him on terrorism charges, Tharit said. "But it will do him good if he cooperates and gives out useful information," he added.

"No time frame has been discussed. I want to give him some comfort - not pressure," he added.

Surachai offered new proposal in exchange of information

Department of Special Investigation has come up with new proposal for Surachai Tewarat, a terror suspect who refused to confess his suspected involvement during the Bangkok violence in May.

DSI chief Tharit Pengdit said Wednesday that his department will offer Surachai, a right hand man of slain Maj Gen Khattiya Sawasdipol that his wife and his mother who are allegedly involved in sting operation to buy war weapons would not be prosecuted if he agrees to reveal information concerning the violence.

His wife and mother would turn into witnesses in the trial, Tharit said.

DSI chief Tharit Pengdit said he assigned the investigation team who will within a few days question Surachai at the Bangkok Remand prison as Surachai.

Surachai initially agreed to reveal information to police but he changed his mind after meeting a team of lawyers from opposition Pheu Thai Party.

Why do they publicly give details of the deal?

Not exactly informant-style deals they are going for, as everyone knows if and when he talks and then he and his family is marked for life...

Offer planned for Thai "red-shirt" in exchange for revealing masterminds

The Justice Ministry's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) plans to give an offer to arrested "red-shirt" guard Surachai Thewarat in exchange for him to reveal the masterminds of major incidents during the recent "red-shirt" rallies, DSI chief Tharit Pengdit said on Wednesday.

The Bangkok Post's website reported that DSI investigators are going to visit Surachai, who has been detained at the Bangkok Remand Prison, in the next day or two days, and will offer that his one-month-old baby girl be protected and his wife and mother be spared as witnesses in illegal arms trading case, Tharit said.

Surachai was arrested in the central Lop Buri province last week for allegedly being involved in terrorism acts during the recent "red-shirt" protests.

The terrorim acts include a series of RPG attacks on the Dusit Thani Hotel and Lumpini police station, and the firing of an M-79 grenades at the BTS station at Sala Daeng and attacking crowds at Silom Road. All of these attacked places are located in central Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

Also, the DSI has claimed that it conducted a sting operation to buy weapons from Surachai and four accomplices before he was arrested.

Surachai's wife was the one, who received 60,000 baht (1,858.14 U.S. dollars), which the DSI officials paid for the weapons during the sting operation, according to Tharit.

The death toll from a series of violent clashes between the " red-shirt" protestors and troops during March 12 to May 19 in central Bangkok stood at 88 as some 1,885 others were wounded.

DSI to Forward Red-Shirt Terrorist Case to Public Prosecutor Next Week

The Department of Special Investigation expects to submit evidence in the terrorism case involving the captured red-shirt militant to the Office of Attorney-General by the end of the month. Meanwhile, the agency has charged three suspects in the Bhumjaithai bomb assault with terrorism.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Thawan Mangkang, director of a special crime division unit at the Department of Special Investigation, or DSI, said investigators are compiling evidence in the case involving alleged red-shirt terrorist Surachai Thevarat, and says he will submit them to the Office of Attorney-General some time next week.

He affirmed that the evidence being held by DSI at the moment is enough to file charges, and says there is no need for further interrogation of the suspect.

Another red of Sae Daeng's group has been busted:

DSI detains Rachata for allegedly involving in Bangkok chaos

Department of Special Investigation has detained Corporal Rachata Wongyod, known as a right hand man of slain Khattiya Sawasdipol, on suspicion that he was involved in several attacks during political violence.

The detention of Rachata followed recent arrest of Surachai, or Rang Thevarat, who was charged with terrorism.

DSI sources said Rachata and Surachai were close and both right-hand men of Khattiaya or Seh Daeng who was shot dead during the May violence.

The sources said that the detained Rachata is the one the DSI wanted, not the one who just had the same names.

DSI would report the arrest to Center for the Resolutions and Emergency Situation this afternoon as Rachata is a corporal attached to an army unit in Prachaub Khiri Khan's Pranburi district.

Initial reports quoted Rachata as denying any involvement in the Bangkok violence. He however admitted that he used to join the red shirts protests.

He was quoted as telling the DSI that he sometime "observed" meetings of "black shirt warriors" which planned counter attack against the government troops.

You might want to review MickyIdea's observations on the subject; believe he had an office inside the building and visited it frequently during the troubles.

Unless you're actually right and Jeff Savage remotely detonated it from the Channel 11 building.

Would love it if he took the offer and implicated the government. Does he have to give actual evidence or just provide a name?

1st detention approved for newly-nabbed aide of Seh Daeng

BANGKOK, 23 July 2010 (NNT) - The Criminal Court has endorsed the police investigator’s request for 12-day detention of Corporal Rachata Wongyod, close-aide of Major-General Khattiya Sawasdipol, for further investigation for terrorism.

The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) today sought the first detention of Corporal Rachata, a 27-year-old terrorism suspect and a close-aid of the late army specialist Major-General Khattiya or Seh Daeng. The suspect was alleged of collaborating with his accomplice, Mr Surachai Thewarat, currently held at the Bangkok Remand Prison, on terrorist attacks and arms trading.

The court sentenced him to 12-day detention during 23 July-3 August 2010. The bail request for the detainee was denied for fear of his escape.

Corporal Rachata, a soldier at Sri Suriyothai military camp in Pran Buri district of Prachuap Khiri Khan province, was captured today and was sent to the DSI Headquarters for questioning. The suspect initially denied all allegations against him.

Another Red-shirt Militant Suspect Nabbed

The Department of Special Investigation has taken into custody a soldier wanted for armed attacks during the red-shirt protests in May.

He denied involvement in the attacks, but admitted to have witnessed planning of anti-government operations.

Officials from the Department of Special Investigation, or DSI, arrested Lance Corporal Rachata Wongyod at Thanarat army camp in Prachin Buri province.

A request was then made with the Criminal Court to detain the suspect.

Investigators said Rachata is a close aide of slain army specialist Major-General Khattiya Sawasdipol. He was also linked to another suspect earlier arrested on terrorism charges, Surachai Thewarat.

Rachata denied his involvement in the violence during the red-shirt protests in May. He claimed was sent to work in the southern border provinces at that time.

The suspect, however, admitted he is an admirer of Khattiya and his ideology.

He added that he was present when the so-called black-shirt militants met to plot their counterattacks against the government.

Rachata claimed Khattiya had used his personal connection to put him in the military service. The suspect used to work as chauffeur of the late general.

Which is?

Next to turning commies into good people is it Tossapit Rajatham, the 10 virtues of the king. In which he saw a concept not only for an emperor or the sovereign, but any individual in a leader position, principles an executive of any organisation should use as guideline.
