First Time To Samui (And Thailand)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

having been to other parts of the asian subcontinent I finally been allured to thailand and I have a couple of questions;

1) when Ive been to other asian countries Ive always come back with fine tailored clothes, Ive heard good things about thai tailors and alot of negative things about thieving pakistani tailors in bangkok. Although im staying in bangkok for a few days im looking to buy a few suits on samui, if anyone knows a tailor that does a good job for a decent price with good English could you let me know how to contact them.

2)The far east is awash with fake items and my relatives love nothing better then a fake pair of prada loafers on a fake handbag. where abouts on the island is the best place for these items?

3) with the world cup in full swing I was wondering where was the best place to pick up "replica" kit of good quality on the island?

4)Im interest in seeing a bull show, how often are the shows and where do they take place

5)Is it best to buy baht in the uk or wait and buy it in thailand?

I thought the state like most other asian countries just turned a blind eye on fake items?

Didnt realise that bullfighting or tailoring was against the law

Fake items are illegal. Tailoring & bullfighting isn't. Does that help?Oh also a walk on the beach or having dinner & watching the sunset is quite acceptable.:)

To be honest you are best doing your shopping in Bangkok rather than Samui. We have some of what you want here, but there is more choice, and it is likely the prices are better there too. Many tailors will do a 24 hour order for you.

I am not aware that we have bulls on the island. Buffoloes yes. These are used for fighting, farming and are an acceptable form of currency in any relationship with a local.:D

Cock fighting and bufflo fighting are show on Thai TV so I doubt they are illegal. Plus there is a sign up advertising it near where I used to live. On the ring road, about 300m or so on the Nathon side of the Bophut stoplight.

its not worth the risk of taking the fake items back for relatives, you could get hammred at custums, its illegal in Thailand to sell fake goods, the shops doing it are paying the police. as well and the police regularly clamp down just for the publicity. buying fake football shirts is also illegal. suprised the topic is running, its a discussion of illegal activity. as for the suits your better going to asda or tesco at home you will get better quaility cheaper. tailors are all nepalese, the material in the shop is not what you get, they are not tailors just shop fronts, the tailors are thais working in the back street sweat shops where you are better going. had to laugh on the material said made in hudderesfield. huddersfield is what it should have said and this was woven into the cloth.

really asking about where to buy fake goods is against forum rules

16) Not to post about gambling, betting, pornography, illegal drugs, fake goods/clothing etc and other activities that are officially illegal in Thailand.

think the bit posting about fake goods covers it prity well.
