Wirless Modem Routers

I'll soon be returning to live permanently in LOS and I'll be bringing both my Laptop and Netbook with me, my question is, " Is the Lan Cable Wiring different in Thailand to the U.K ? " I will be wanting to set up a Wireless Modem Router in my home to accomodate those and just wondered, if the wiring is different, how I would go about configuring it.?

The LAN cable is just the same. You will have to reset the router of course. Not a difficult job.

Same, same. You'll probably just need to crank in your User ID and Password from whatever Thai ISP you signup with and you'll be online again. If there are any other modem/router setting changes they will be very minor. Then, unless you are one of the lucky ones by living in the right location to get a good (and fast) ISP plan, you'll probably join the chorus of complainers regarding slow international internet speed.

Hi and thanks for the Info. I was thinking of either, buying a router from the ISP or maybe localy and not bringing mine from here in the U.K.

saves on the weight allowance, any thoughts on this,?

I made the mistake of buying a TP Link wireless router here and found that it would not hold settings and I had to keep re-setting it. I ended up buying a Netgear from the US and bringing it with me. End of problems.

Well I'm going to live in my home in The Khon Kaen Region, Amphur Khon San, not holding out too much hope on good and speedy ISP, but suppose I can always come on here and have a good old moan about it, that is unless someone knows better.?....

If you are going to be in Khon Kaen you will be able to visit Tuk Com. Selling anything you could ever need for your computer and internet needs.

Including the TP Link wireless modem that works very well for me.

As you say do not hold your breath on a reliable internet connection anywhere.

Usually when you sign up with an ISP in Thailand you will get a free modem or modem/router with a one year contract...one year contracts are pretty much the norm--and a free wireless modem/router with an 18 month contract. If you end up with a TOT phone/DSL line, the following web site shows most of their current internet plans...most people will probably be limited to the 4Mb/512Kb plan...all depends on where you live...have your Google Toolbar Translate turned on (note: the Dollar signs should really translate to Baht signs...a common Thai to English Google translate error...the amounts are in Baht): http://www.tot.co.th/index.php?option=com_linkcontent&Itemid=88&categoryid=42&task=detail&detail_id=910〈=th

Yes, thanks for the reply, I'm already using Netgear Wireless N with the faster Wireless USB Adapter, here in the U.K at the moment, so looks like I'll be bringing it with me. Not really expecting too much from any of the ISP's, Wing N' A Prayer really.
