July 14, 201015 yr I got a garmin nuvi with ESRI maps 2v8.10 Last time i tried to get ladkabang soi 8 and it could not even find it. It seems to have problems finding many major roads. I tried many spelling things. I even let my gf try to use it in Thai does anyone have this problem too. Could it be me or what ? Just tried Srinakarin Rd too and cant find it either. my map file is only 80mb or so is that enough ?
July 18, 201015 yr Hi mate, I have a Garmin too, and finding streets is a major problem. I end up finding the place on the map and then saving the destination and then Go-to. The streets are there, you just have to find them. Onother problem I have is it tries to tell me to take streets that are not there yet.
July 18, 201015 yr <snip> Onother problem I have is it tries to tell me to take streets that are not there yet. You have to pay attention to the distance until turn scale in conjunction with the arrows, or zoom in (+) to expand the map.
July 21, 201015 yr Hi I was told that the problem was that you spell a street name so many ways in Thailand and the Garmin dont know half of them, in Phuket if you search for Patong you need to spell it Pa tong, well, you should 2 years ago, have not checked latly.
July 21, 201015 yr Author Now i just go to google earth and stuff like that to find coordinates. I do find it a bit annoying, but it is true streets can be written in many different ways. But it does not explain the lack of streets in the database when you search. On the map its usually right about street names and so on it even finds my small village but when i try to look up the street it cant find it.
July 22, 201015 yr Are all GPS's using the same software? I got mine from Techline at MBK and it seems like the other stores selling different brands are using the same exact program.. finding streets-forget about it.. when i type sukumvit soi 33.. it leads me to some other place thats not on sukumvit road, i type pattaya..it doesn't know 'pattaya' you have to look for chonburi.. i find the best way to do it is to just manually drag the map to close where you wanna go, then simply tap near there and 'set as destination' .. then figure out where you need to be when you arrive near your destination..

Try typing Sukhumvit 33 soi, that works om my Nüvi 660 Lat Krabang and Srinagarindra, they are all there, when you search for an adress, try to type the first 3-4 letters and let the GPS find alternatives. Hope this helps

However on the map it does have those streets.
July 31, 201015 yr All three of those roads are in my Nuvi 205 data base. Are you setting the search city/province to Bangkok?
July 31, 201015 yr Author All three of those roads are in my Nuvi 205 data base. Are you setting the search city/province to Bangkok? Yes i have, (made that mistake before). I have even changed maps to a new versie (not sure if that updates that database too)
July 31, 201015 yr Author Just found out it does find lad krabang but not the others. Maybe that changed when i updated the maps.
August 2, 201015 yr I ve just purchased a Nüvi 1460 with Thailand Streetmap ver. 10.1 and I have been trying to set it up to be able to switch between Eng. and Thai maps. That is a tricky process and I have still not figured out how to do it. I have made a new folder named Map in the list and placed the Eng. map there, the Thai map is on a micro SD-card. The maps in the Map-folder can have any name in front of .img. I have to use it without the SD-card to have the Eng. maps shown, and after inserting the SD-card it switches to Thai map. The problem occurs when I remove the card again and it switches back to Eng. map. Now the search for address is totally gone, it can't find anything. Then I have to reinstall the Eng map to make it work again. Seems something in the system is hanging after the switch of maps. If anyone have a solution to the problem I would love to hear about it . I tried to contact ESRI, but after two weeks no reply even though they read my mail.
August 2, 201015 yr Is there a reason why you want both English and Thai maps installed. What map came installed in internal memory when you bought the Nuvi 1460 from the dealer.
August 3, 201015 yr Is there a reason why you want both English and Thai maps installed. What map came installed in internal memory when you bought the Nuvi 1460 from the dealer. Hi, the reason is that my wife sometimes want to use it in Thai and it can be an advantage if we can't find an address in English, I use English myself. I had a Mio136 once with both maps which I could just choose in the menu, very good .
August 3, 201015 yr 1. I'm assuming you purchased your Nuvi 1460 in Thailand so it has the Thai OS installed. 2. Have you tried choosing which map to use with the 'Map Info' page? Allows you to manually enable and disable individual maps. 3. Why did you find it necessary to create a new Map folder and place the English language map there? What map came pre-installed with the Nuvi 1460 when you purchased it?

Hi again, some answers to your questions: 1) Yes 2) Yes 3) The Nüvi 14xx comes with a new way to deal with maps, create a folder called Map and you can put different maps with any name ending with .img, not only gmapprom.img, gmapbmap.img, gmapsupp.img and so on. So I have the English map, New Zealand and can add as many as the space allows.

The Nuvi 1460 should come with an original map installed, usually gmapprom.img, hidden in the System folder, you added a Map folder and a microSD card. By my count you have at least 4 maps installed, maybe more - TSM English Map, TSM Thai Map, New Zealand Map and original Map as gmapprom.img all spread among the various locations.

Ok, NZ and SingMal in folder Map, TSM Thai ver 10.1 is on SD.card, TSM Eng ver 10.1 map in System folder as gmapprom.img.
August 3, 201015 yr 1. So does the 'Map Info' page (Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info) recognize all these maps and are you able to enable/disable the individual maps? 2. What happened to the TSM English map you placed in the "new folder named Map"? Reference your original post.
August 4, 201015 yr 1. So does the 'Map Info' page (Tools > Settings > Map > Map Info) recognize all these maps and are you able to enable/disable the individual maps? 2. What happened to the TSM English map you placed in the "new folder named Map"? Reference your original post. All maps in the Map folder are recognized and can be enable/disableed if they can be read by the new system (NT?). I moved theTSM English map back to System folder of anger as I could not search for an address on sunday when I needed to. It seems it doesn't matter what folder the maps are in, but if they are in the Systemfolder they need to be named the old way (gmapbmap- gmapprom). I'm very confused with this and it seem impossible to have the two TSM Thailand maps installed and be able to switch between them
August 4, 201015 yr I'm very confused with this and it seem impossible to have the two TSM Thailand maps installed and be able to switch between them A Garmin device is unable to read more than 1 mapset which are using the same Family ID (FID). A workaround to this problem is to manually edit the second map's FID using a utility called GMapTool. Once both mapsets have different FID's, the device will recognize them as separate mapsets.
August 4, 201015 yr You could try the TSM English map and the TSM Thai map together in the System folder. Just a guess. Backup everything beforehand. 1. Remove the micro SD card from your Nuvi 1460. 2. Take the TSM Thai map file from the ESRI CD and rename it gmapsupp.img. 3. Add the gmapsupp.img file to the Systen folder. You now should have both TSM English (gmapprom.img) and TSM Thai (gmapsupp.img) maps in the System folder. 4. If that doesn't work then I'd say you cannot have both the English and Thai maps installed on the GPS simultaneously. Don't recall ESRI ever advertising that you could install both and switch between them. 5. You also should be running the latest Thai firmware version 2.50 (Tools > Settings > System > About).
