you would have a motorbike to drive in BKK and want to avoid the expensive locations on sukhumvit... and don't really need BTS/MRT

but just live close enough to reach the lower part off sukhumvit and also pratunam in arround 5-10 minutes by bike !

online there are enough condo's for rent but there are so much areas and i would like to find a farang friendly area(wich is hard too see on a maprolleyes.gif).. a litlle cozy and stay within my budget of 15K

can any one reccomend some nice areas with value for money

Lots of choice of apartments in the small soi's off soi Rang Nam. Close to Patunam. Few pubs around with mix of farang and thai's and Short walk to Victory Monument and also Saxophone bar that is a nice place with live music and a mix of farang and Thai.

I rented a huge 1 bed apartment for 10K a month but that was 5 years ago so not sure of the price now.

Still stay around there in a serviced apartment when I am in BKK sometimes.

Hi AAACEE,

Well it seems very obvious that the reason for the high prices is brokers, in my opinion. Avoid using a broker and you will get a decent price, and AVOID craigslist. I live in an all thai apartment building, and it's a new building only a 4 minute walk to the Suthisan station 10kbht, 46 sq, living space and sleeping space seperate.. This is just one of hundreds of apartment buliding that are in and around the Bangkok area, and imagine that, it is near the MRT. Bangkok housing is very affordable as long as you stay away from foriengers fleecing foriengners (Brokers). Use a Thai only website and I am sure you can find a townhouse even under that Price.

I found a few new Condo/Apt building just past Onut only a few minutes walk from the Sukhumvit. Here is one I almost chose prior to the one I am living in Now. I am not a broker, owner, or any way affiliated with the following listing. Hope this helps.

And Haggle, I have never lived in a City with so many empty units. What one advertises for, and what one will settle for are two different things.

And 5-10 Minutes by bike, hmmmm depends on traffic but I am thinking about 25-30minutes to the lower Suckhumvit. Even by MRT I am about 15 minutes out.

Not sure what you mean by "Farang Friendly", thus I am unable to comment. To give you and idea of items within a few minutes walk of my Apartment. MRT Station, seven eleven, a few Thai restor., noodle stands, police station, Thai karaoke,

Not sure that this helps, but my 2 cents.

Sorry...but with so many bike accidents, make sure it is near a hospital! I have a relative who just got out due to some crazy taxi driver....it was a bad accident.

I’m sorry but this post is absolute nonsense, I’m a broker and often find places cheaper than you would find on a Thai website, some of us do negotiate you know to find a good deal for owners and clients.

Also many brokers have their own contracts in English that the owner and client sign, we have a far better return rate on deposits this way.

You can walk into most condos and ask at the juristic office but they often don’t have all the empty condos available and often tell you the wrong price.

The best way to get a good deal is to sign a longer contract, so many people want a 3-6month contract its hard to negotiate with this. sign for 1-2years and you will get a better deal.

Also a lot of Thai owners refuse to lower their prices even if the condo building is half empty, they see it as a long term investment a foreign owner will nearly always negotiate.

If the pic is you- then appear u kickbox, etc... near Ko San has good places to work out for Farangs. Very Farang friendly, if this meaning many Farangs around. Otherwise I have found nearly all places are Farang friendly in Thai, yet not all places speak English if that is what u mean. Sukhumvit, inner biz areas is outside your budget mostly...

15k- $470US pm is a low budget yet doable. 5K Apartment outside the main areas- try Ding Dang, Banglapoo or further outside. Banglapoo being Ko San seems like it will suit you and be within budget.

A mate claims to make approx. 100K bt pm yet lives off 15K bt pm- so saving a heap monthly. That is not so much entertainment or drink or luxuries... if only heading out 2-3 times pm for drink, fun, etc then u should be fine.

No chance if you heading out every 2nd night like many... Up it to $1000 pm if wanting a lot of entertainment or have Thai gf's. Easy done without this... IMO.

Chok Dee...

Hi Jayinoz,

Try not to get your panties in a bunch!

And just what part of my reply to the Op was Nonsense, as it seems I have ruffled your feathers. Was it that Craiglist is overpriced with brokers listings? It is! Fact

Or was it the fact that you are one of these brokers who relys heavily on unknowing foriengers? You are, until you prove otherwise.

Post your listings - links for future homeseekers, so they can see the difference in the price if it is such nonsense. No not you, instead you just reply with your a broker who has better prices most of the time, than on Thai website does. Sling that s##$ elsewhere!

Enjoy your stay.

Agree with newguy70, craigslist is getting inundated with overpriced broker listings. Brokers need to make money by marking up, that's just the nature of the business..I don't see how brokers can undercut a direct listing unless you work off a set fee and act as a buyer's agent. Even that has conflicts of interest..

Hi AACCCCEEE.

How much space do you need?

Where I live I can get to Asok junction on a motorbike in under 5 minutes.

Check google maps for the square sided by sukhumvit soi 24 , Rama 4, Soi 16 and the main Sukumvit Road. Inside this area you can get nice new studio condos overlooking the benjakitti park (with swimming pool and high floors with views) for your budget. However, Thai accomodation starts around 1500bt -3500bt per room (20/25 m2). A shophouse - 3-5 floors - 160-200+ m2 - 7000bt upto 10000bt for north of the quadrant I described and then 20k upto extortionate the more prime or centrally sited.

try liberty apartments on sukhumvit soi 20. plenty of farangs live on soi 20 and soi 22. there is a bar on soi 22 called sports corner always a good place to drink and meet plenty of farangs

well as i have mentioned.. i found a place near the esplanade and the good thing is they do a month to month basis wich i was actually looking for and it's brand new furnitured.. i've seen allot of places in good locations but the furniture and insides where a bit old!! wich made it harder to commit for 6months

anyway i'm still open to place closer to sukhumvit wich is quite new and within the budget of 10-15k now i know its possible i've seen it... so i will keep looking but anyway i have found my base and i can get to work an start exploring

sukhumvit suites on soi13 is also a good place great view and studio's and 1 bedrooms from 12 to 15k but they wanted a 6month contract minimum and i would have to change a little bit of the furniture

the owner of my building is actually very clever he has many rooms and is almost fully booked because he is flexible and very farang oriented so thats why i chose this place... but when i'm really deciding for a longer stay i would choose somewhere nearer 2 sukh

today i have been driving around on my bike between soi 16 and 24 and there are indeed massive amounts of apartments... but most of them seem over my budget of 10-15k.. there probably are enough places within but i don't know wich ones... maybe you could point me in the right direction of a few ?

like i said i have a place already but i would prefer to stay a bit more central
