My first thought when I read this was "How is the viper doing?"

However, I then realised that it was probably a serious post - so sorry for the mother-in-law jokes and I hope that she recovers OK.

Yes, like the cobra, anti-venin is required. I understand its quite painful so I do hope she will be ok

Please don't take this the wrong way. My dog was bitten by a red tailed green viper on his nose. His muzzle blew up like a football and he had difficulty breathing. He was on intravenous meds for a night but no antivenom. The next day he was sore but other than that, fine. For people it is my understanding that it is very painful but not life threatening unless the bitee has an allergy to the venom. Hope the MIL gest over the bite soon.

BTW those snakes are found all over Bangkok and are very common. When cutting down some vegetation behind my home I grasped one by mistake. I did not see it because it blended in so well. I was so shocked I threw everything in my hand before it had a chance to bite. I think it was as shocked as I was. My friend ran a mile because I threw it in his direction without thinking.
