Nice to see you've righted a couple of wrongs sbk, which got me to thinking about how I was introduced to popular music and which songs have stood the test of time.

Finally gone for The Platters, "Only You"

The classic Gene Chandler song "Duke of Earl"

Cont'd from above

Another old Platters song "Unchained Melody" only this time by The Rightious Brothers

and Ben E. King's "Stand By Me" but after much deliberation decided to make it John Lennon's version, ( could easily have been the original or even the 'Global" version )

Sorry about the Polish sub-titles and so on ...

(My Polish wife looked very much like MM in this clip)

I preferred the Ivor & Basil Kirchin version, but cannot find a copy

It's something that I hear every week or so, but cannot play.

(The songs I hear out loud most weeks are the Rugby/Hash songs on the coach coming home. Most of them are to be found somewhere on You Tube)(Timeless, but not for their musical innovations  )

He was banned from Britain because of his 13-year-old wife, but I liked his music

(He made a comeback in the late nineties)

And for a different version

deys from Nashville...an' I was born there; quite sure that I saw them around when I was about 5 y/o before the family moved to CA...

my Tennesse grandma was unimpressed: 'bunch of glorified hillbillies...' she sniffed...

splendid...and ignored by all on this thread

I remember after school once in the early 60s in CA where there were teen dance shows in the afternoon in LA on the tele and a girl from the crowd was selected to lip-synch 'My Guy'; a fine looking chicana number and a natural performer...she burned the place down with her gyrations and got real sexy with the last breathless 'there's not a man to take me away from my guy...'

it was live and couldn't be edited...still remember it to this day... :licklips:

Hey, Tutsi, is it raining where you are?

Here it is a really heavy storm - nothing to do but post clips.

Its timelessly bad as a tune but as a sentiment I agree wholeheartedly.

Ha, ha.

Had the same a year or more back, when I arrived in Saigon. There was a sealed window in my room with the fire-escape running past. So not intended to open.

Came in one evening and found an inch or more of water in the room. Called the staff counter, they used dozens of clean towels to mop up the water, then left a few more round the base of the window to soak up any coming in.

Next day there was a lot of sticky tape all round the window,

One of my teenage crushes.

It was only later that I found out she was gay.

Alma Cogan, Dusty, Lita Roza - all girls together.
