I took the "JFK" express in May BKK-JFK. Fantastic, liked it because getting to JFK in 17 hours instead of the long layover through Tokyo on Northwest was a breeze. Am returning in September and will be using it again.

  How was it etc etc????????

thanks

I did a few weeks ago - nice flight. The seats are larger, reclines more, lot's of movies & documentaries to choose from (and a bunch of video games too but I didn't try those). A few software issues in the entertainment system (use only the remote, the touch screen will cause it to hang and you'll have to ask them to reboot it).

Good meal/beverage service too - they have 14 cabin attendants on board working in 2 hour shifts, constantly patrolling the aisles with beverage trays.

OK, searched that site and did not find all I wanted.

I was about to ask this same question about anyone's experience on this flight.

Funny thing is it is that the flying times are almost the same in both directions (17 hrs +-10 min). In checking with TG yesterday I could not find anyone who knew the actual flight paths for these flights. Do they go almost trans-polar? Or do they go over Pacific from BKK and then over Atlantic from JFK? Anyone know? :o

Normally there is almost a 2 hr flying time difference coming and going from west coast to BKK because of the jetstream.

Yes, trans-polar flight.

Yes, trans-polar flight.

Interesting that they got permission to fly over Russia and China. If this is true, then I will definitely be taking this flight. Always wanted to fly accross the pole. :D

Were the attendents all Thai girls?

That would be nice, rather than the grouchy/snotty lady falangs

also do they have the map with the plane, showing your progress, I

always liked that, not sure why.

thx

I think there's been a lot of trans-Siberia air traffic since more than ten years ago when planes flying between far east and Europe stopped making refueling stops in Anchorage for trans-polar flight and started non-stop, trans-Siberia service instead. I've flown such flights between Zurich - Tokyo and Copenhagen - Tokyo a few times in early 90's.

BTW, NYC is right in the opposite time zone from BKK, making polar flight the shortest route and both the inbound and outbound flying time being the same because it neither flies against the jet stream nor in tailwind so the effect of jetstream is the same bothways. :D
