PM's Office Minister to Push Ranong Province as World Tourist Destination

BANGKOK: -- The PM's Office Minister has vowed to help develop Ranong Province into a shipping hub and world-class tourist destination.

After his trip to the southern provinces of Chumporn, Ranong, and Surat Thani, the PM's Office Minister Satit Wongnongtoey said he met with the governors of the provinces and heads of related government agencies, to follow up on the government's policy plans designed to ease people's hardships such as land ownership disputes, drought related difficulties, as well as issues related to alien and minority laborers.

Satit added that at the meeting they also discussed issues relating to border trade policy. Satit was able to tour the Ta Sae Dam project in Chumporn province, as proposed by the Assembly of the Poor.

The PM's Office Minister stated that during his visit to Ranong province, various issues were discussed and addressed, and he took the opportunity to clarify Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva's policy, which aims to solve farm land problems and address the inequality of land ownership amongst farmers. Achieving a solution will also require community action.

In addition, Satit pledged that to push to help make Ranong a maritime transportation hub. He added that with all of its wondrous natural resources, it has the potential to be another world-class tourist destination.

He added that he has invited representatives from the the public sector to propose solutions to problems and ideas for dealing with challenges like returning national identity to Thai people-in-exile, informal debt, and the lack of local jobs caused by their having been taken by foreign labors.

He will take the proposed solutions into account during his next meeting with government agencies.

Satit is scheduled to make a trip to inspect a pilot community that has adopted a "deeds project" that was established to help the royal forest community in Nong Luang field of Surat Thani province.

Yet another 'hub' and this time they want to ruin the lovely Ranong. How about an 'Eco' hub? And as to blaming foreigners (again) I'm assuming he's talking about the Burmese and Mon who the Thais prefer to hire for much less money, no security, and the don't job hop. As to reforming Title deeds, don't hold your breath. And what happened to the much needed Land Tax to free up those thousands of rai being sat on by just one greedy landowner?

please leave Ranong alone, it is been our favourite hideaway for over 30 years, a place to take foreign visitors young and old alike, great locations for swimming and diving, always good wholesome entertainment and great service in the small hotels in and around ranong, build another Irish /australian gay paradise in pattaya or phuket, but please leave Ranong alone :jap:

So let me get this straight. You aren't Irish, Australian, or gay and you think you get to keep this hideaway all to yourself (whatever you are) and your insider friends. Good luck, the secret is out!

actually, he may well succeed, at least for a long time.

well known issues specific to thailand, and likely continuing global austerity, dont add up to big new developments here. look around; there is spare capacity everywhere in the tourist industry.

growth in thai tourism was yesterday's story.

Ever been to Ranong when it wasn't raining ? I believe it is the rainiest province in the country. No beaches, a very ordinary casino in Myanmar waters (owned by a Thai Senator, I believe).

People friendly enough, no western restaurants that I could see. Wpod be a good, quiet place to live, but not suitable for large scale tourism.

My two baht worth....

There are beaches in Ranong. They do need a lot of developing though if they want tourists. However I hope they forgrt all about it. Ranong's just fine the way it is thanks. Yes it is usually the rainiest province, although I doubt it can hold on to that claim this year.

So, the PM office has a "special interest" in Ranong and TAT doesn't have a say in the matter. Does this mean that the PM office has about as much confidence in TAT as TV members, or does it mean that influential officials from that area (you don't have to look far) will proceed regardless of what any non-vested interests have to say? Perhaps, TAT may take a turn on the political turf and venture into the big boss boy's jurisdiction with a road map to wreck one silly nation.

Ranong is just a peaceful single priced not yet fully westernised thai township, a perfect family holiday resort why spoil it, by the number of your threads it seems you spend all your time browsing thai visa picking faults in sensible comments , do you ever have any original sensible thoughts of your own!!being one of the few europeans who has actually experienced 48 years of the westernisation and corruption of thai values, is it so bad to preserve the innocense of at least one town :wai:
