Not sure if this topic has been done- was listening to Procol Harem on MP3 and it struck me this is a genre unto itself-

Rock/pop/or ballads with a symphony or orchestra blend, adds an amazing ingredient- pure passion...

A few of my favs are:

(Rock)

Procol Harem, Conquistador (#1, hands down)

Red Ryder, White Hot (live version)

Led Zep, Kashmir

Gun's n Roses, November Rain

(Ballads)

INXS, never tear us apart

Andrea Bocelli, Time to say goodbye

Etta James, at last

Got a fav to share?

Moody Blues - Nights in white satin - the whole album - possibly the first of its kind.

I saw Emerson Lake & Palmer in '77 live with the London Philharmonic Orchestra. That was a pretty awesome show!

That's my "karaoke" song... :D

totster :D

Now there is something to look forward to. :o

I always liked the little passage of poetry that came after the song, during the closing orchestration on the album:

"Bedsitter people look back and lament

Another day's useless energy spent."

I don´t know if this applies:

Emma Shapplin.

She sings in an opera voice to rock music arranged in an orchestral manner.

Stunning.

The 'best' professional marrying of Rock & Orchestra music has long been considered what Frank Zappa did with various symphanies.

Zappa was a musical genius.

You beat me to it.

The Moody Blues; Days of Future Passed. Recorded with the London Festival Orchestra. Of course Nights in White Satin, to me one of the gretest songs ever recorded, was the culmination of an incredible sequence of music. And after that the albums somehow got better.

Indeed he was a musical genius...and too often unrecongnized as such.

Bittersweet Symphony by The Verve is a good un....

Was that an orchestral arrangement or a synthesizer?

Not certain (hard to tell with all the advanced gizmos these days;) but certainly a fantastic arrangement- hats off Tots :o

I'm sure I have seen The Verve perform the track live (albeit on TV) with an orchestra accompanying.... originally though it probably was synthesized..

totster :D
