Only 7% VAT on vehicles with more than 10 seats, no excise tax. Not sure if all countries are excepted from importduties on 11 seats and all size of engines, so not sure ALL taxes.

Huyndais 11 seat certanly comes here without any taxes except VAT, just look at the price.

Toyota Alphard has been grey imported for years, usually with 11 seats, then quitely swapped to 7 seats. Huge gain in taxes, reduced price and huge profit for importer.

Same vehicle now officially imported by Toyota as 7 seats at +3 million baht. Toyota does not want to go the 11 seat route, and at the same time the grey importers and buyers experience shakedown on those swapped to 7 seats. Just as Toyota/Lexus refuse to detune any engine to 220 hp tax barrier. Tidy business in LOS

Driving more than 7 seat vehicle is "work" for thai nationals only, even when blue on white as private vehicle. WP are not granted for this work, most driving +10 seats vehicles have workpermits as guides or translators and get away with it

What would be attractive are the minivans with 7 proper seats, and 4 crappy foldable seats to satisfy customs and LTD. I used to import/sell Chrysler Town&Country/Dodge Grand Caravan/Chrysler Grand Voyager in my home country with 7 original seats and 3 foldable making it seat 10 and avoid 1,2 million baht of taxes on purchase. Great business until loophole was closed.

I think i'll rip out the jump seats and register as black on white. This does appear to be a very complex issue.

2 door pickup with black on white is registered for 2 people, thats one passenger, and usually only insured for driver and one passenger

Diplomatic is black letters on a white plate (there a numbering layout difference from the standard plate we all have). The white letters on a blue plate is for an "international organization" not for diplomats.

I have wondered what those were.

They (dip plates) are long rather than short. i.e. like a Malaysian or British plate shape whilst the standard Thai plate is more like the American plate size and shape.
