I wonder
I am conducting a survey of salaries in Thailand and would appreciate any feedback members can give me. This is focused on the oil and gas industry and as I have always worked for UK/US companies I really have no idea of local rates. Salary database for operations and maintenance teams Functions for O&M team Support companies and unit rates I fully appreciate that some information is confidential and I am not expecting anyone to breach confidences I just need a broad idea of rates. I doubt antone in their right mind will post their wages on a public forum on an unsolicited request. If you just want some idea, perhaps a poll with salary ranges would solicit more responses as it would be more anonymous.

stander
http://aoprals.state.gov/Web920/location_action.asp?MenuHide=1&CountryCode=1143 This site will give you an idea of the Per Diem you should get. When I work in Thailand I get these allowances, plus tax paid, so it is no different for me regardless of location.
GuestHouse
The rates are dependent upon how desperate you are to be in Thailand - If you're real desperate, and the person interviewing you knows your real desperate you'll get a crap deal. If you have skills or expertise to sell and you're willing to sell it where ever the best deal is, you might get the full expat deal - assuming a job comes up. To give an idea of the starting point, take the deal you are on in the ME as the base line, though if you are on an 'all found' deal you should be looking at a similar base rate with the 'all found' portion changed for a Living Allowance. Exactly I know guys who are working here for half the rate, just because they were so desperate to get on a Thai project.
beppi
A local fresh university graduate (engineering) earns about THB18k/month, with a few years experience this goes up to THB30-40k. Don't ask me how they manage to have >THB1million car, a THB5million house and still feed a family! The official minimum wage in Bangkok is THB6k, but many people (especially manual labour) get less than that. It's good to keep this in mind when foreigners here complain about finances. stander
Our Thai engineers are on 80K and with overtime I reckon 120K
MJo
MNC's get regularly screwed by their own local HR. Very common to pay 80k for 50k engineer. Sometimes ironic when they are same time killing their subcons by pushing their pricing too far.

stander
My personal experience is that if you can find good Thai engineers, they are actually more reliable than most farang engineers, who usually let their little head do all the thinking. jackr
Know of guys in the Gulf getting from between 150 up to close to a million, the latter being head of hyrdaulics/fishing the stuck bit etc. Around 15-20k a day 4 on 4 off with stand-down seems to be about the norm for those guys working the big rigs; house, car, fuel paid for. PattayaParent
Do you want Thai salaries or Farang salaries? Are you looking to relocate here from ME? Salaries here are better than ME. My normal expectations are home salary plus airfares, accommodation, transport , (schooling I wish!!), etc. tax free (ie paid by company) Edited August 1, 2010 by PattayaParent
Chunky1
i never would have guessed that salary in Thailand would be better than the Middle East considering that, apparently, most of the ME guys head to Thailand immediately when their job in the ME is finished. Why is the salary in the ME lower?
