Although i agree that a degree doesn't necessarily make you more qualified, it does serve a purpose. From the hiring firm's p.o.v., when they have tons of resumes, an easy and legitimate way of filtering down to the short list of candidates is by level of education. Another perspective is that a degree, no matter what it's in, is a way to guage a person's ability to learn, accomplish, complete, and compete to do something beyond the norm. Without a degree it's time consuming and wasteful to determine, let alone take a chance, with someone to see if they are "better equipped" or not to do the job.

Your Thai wife is applying for her visa, she could either get or it could be refused to her.

So you have to make a decision, your wife is in LOS, not only your wife but your child, my first is on the way Oct. So what would you now do?

You hear about teaching as an option, you have a BTEC Diploma from college, and you really feel up for the challenege and you think you can be a good teacher.

So you make the trip, you go do a course in BKK or some other city, you pass your TEFL and get your certificate. Anyone having passed this, should qualify them to teach in LOS and no one can denie this.

So you apply for job after job, but with no luck, why... cause you need a Degree, in whatever subject it seems to me So you think about this for a second. You have your TEFL, you do have a Diploma, so you are educated, but your being turned down for teaching positions. Forget about you, think now of your wife, and your new born child, who need food, clothing, and a roof over there head. You cant bring them to your country as they were turned down for a visa, so you have to make it work in LOS.

Please don't tell me you would not think or even go down the route of buying a fake degree, anyone who loves there wife and child, would want to see them looked after and living to good standards. But if Im wrong for thinking like this, which many have said... then...... I dont know, I dont know what to think.

If I went for a TEFL and didnt pass, then I would understand, but if I or you did the course and proved by having the cert that your are capable of being a teacher, its wrong that you cant because you dont have a degree in paper folding

Westy... I´m 25 and I was teaching for nearly two years in LOS without degree... It´s far easier to GET the job once you are on site, on location.

Westy a BTEC Diploma if it took 3 years to complete should be able to be used in place of a degree.
