Malani Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I am looking for restaurants or hotels that have western kitchen. My boyfriend is coming to Thailand in couple of months, and since I study in Hat Yai at PSU, he will be living with me. He used to work as a cook in Austria and in his country, Croatia. So now I am looking for some restaurants or hotels in Hat Yai or even in Songkhla where he could find a job.. Thanks 1
mallyrd Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Finding a job for an expat in the catering industry in either Hatyai or Songkhla is about as rare as rocking horse sh-t. In times long past the JB Hotel had expats on its staff as did the Central Sukhanta (excuse the spelling). Bars and restuarants that employ expats are generally owned and operated by expats and the owner tends to be the chef. Phuket or places like Pattaya might be a better option where there is a steady flow of western tourists.
vont Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 Malani Would be going to Penang by way of Hatyai on Mon., Aug., 9, and if time permits, would like to talk to you about your boyfriend's chef experiences. You can pm me, if you like and tell me what kind of chef and where was he employed before coming to Thailand to join you? Regards, Vont.

It is a tough job market for any Western trained and experienced chef. However, if Malani's boyfriend has the necessary Asian working characteristics and aptness including his relevant chef experiences, he could fit into an existing f/b establishment, don't you agree? Anyway, the spelling of the hotel name should read, Central Sukhonta, situating right in the heart of the little shopping mecca--Hatyai, right across the street from McDonald in Lee Garden Plaza Hotel. Did you know some years back, before Chiengmai coming into her own, Haadyai used to be called the Little Bangkok of the South because of its wealth, commerce, financial and entertainment resources? These factors are still in operation but it is just only a shadow of its former grand self. Even former premiere Thaksin, before becoming famous; when he needed extra cash, he used to come to hatyai with his predated personal checks. What is a predated personal check? Oh well, let someone else expounds on this infamous Asian economic culture.
