Suspect nabbed for role in Big C blast, detainment being sought

BANGKOK (NNT) -- The Department of Special Investigation (DSI) will seek the court's detainment of Mr Seksan Worapiticharoenkul, allegedly in connection with the recent blast in front of Big C Supercenter.

The DSI investigators are reportedly planning to propose to the Criminal Court an endorsement of the first detainment of Mr Seksan after the completion of the interrogation process. The court will also be asked to reject the bail request for the suspect, who is initially charged with illegal possession of heavy weapons.

Mr Seksan has not provided any testimony to the police investigators so far. However, a key witness, Ms Patipak Aekapiwat, has implicated him and another accomplice, identified as Mr Kittisak Sumsri, in the Big C bomb blast.

On 25 July, a grenade attack occurred in front of Big C Supercenter on Ratchadamri Road, leaving one dead and several injured. Investigation is underway to figure out the motive behind the blast and those responsible.

Bomb Hoax Stirs Downtown Rayong

A mysterious box was found near a school in Rayong's downtown. Police believe the object, which turned out to be harmless, was meant to stir fear and chaos.

Police from Muang Rayong police station rushed to inspect the content of a suspicious box and initially ruled that it could be an explosive.

A bomb disposal squad was called to the crime scene. Police later said the plywood box contained an electrical wire connected to an alarm clock with two batteries and is actually harmless.

The police believe the bomb hoax was meant to scare people.

They collected the box to find possible fingerprints to help identify the mastermind and will seek more witness testimonies as well as review the footage of security cameras near the scene.

The incident caused a panic in the area as students' parents rushed to pick up their children from the school.
