I have recently finished a contract and therefore had to hand in my work permit and have also obtained a 7 day extension to stay in Bangkok. My previous multi entry Non Imm B visa is valid until Nov 2010.If I fly to Singapore from Bangkok and return - can I still use the original Non Imm B?

Yes. As long as you are talking about a Consulate issued visa rather than an Immigration extension of stay.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the original Mon Imm B is a consulate issued visa from KL.

Can someone enlighten me? He/She has a valid and current Non Imm B. Was there a need to obtain a 7 day extension?

If so, on the basis that another type of visa was issued......does not the original Non Imm B cancel automatically?

Once you get a work permit, it is authorized only up until your 90 day stay is finished. You then have to go to immigration and get an extension of stay (*NOT* a new visa) based on your work permit. Once an extension of stay is granted, then your basis to stay in the country is based on that, not on the original visa.

Most people don't even bother applying for the work permit and associated extension of stay until the 90 days is almost up anyway, so it is almost universal that while on a work permit you are on an extension of stay, not a visa.

Since he obviously worked at the job for less than a year, his Non B is still valid, he just needs to reactivate it for another 90 days by leaving the country and coming back. Without the 7 day extension,he would have needed to leave the country the same day he cancelled his work permit. With the 7 day extension, he can leave anytime during the next week.

End of job has no effect on a 90 day visa stay which is what the OP had so there was no need for an extension of stay as they can complete the current 90 days and if multi entry and still valid return for new 90 day stays. An extension of stay only changes the previous permitted to stay. It has not effect on any visa.

Not true. Work permits no longer follow permitted to stay and are normally issued for a year or two regardless of current entry. You do not re-activate a visa - you obtain a new permitted to stay. You do not need to leave the country if you are not on an extension of stay for work.

That's indeed the case in my province. Already since April 2008.

It's reported though that it doesn't seem to apply to all Labour Offices nationwide.
